This is a factory black '73/'74 transitional; I've got numbers from both years in it. It had been in a fender bender years before I bought it and is missing the front serial plate. The passenger fender was replaced and the body serial was cut out of the old one and put into this one... that being said, it was done super well.
All that to say, I don't feel guilty about cutting this car. It's going in for paint this weekend. I'm keeping the factory black, but will be going all out on the paint and clear coat. Here are some before pics. Looks Great!....those steelies with long studs look great when the body was still narrow. Isn't this the car with the bad-ass suspension?

I have the Elephant Racing full kit up front along with the adjustable sway. It rails and I couldn't be happier with it right now... but when I get some 8" shoes on it, I think I'll change my tune. Black flared 914's always look so cool and sort of mean or menacing. Can't wait to see the painted version!

Can't wait to see the end results!
Are you trying to match the factory black, or going with a different black? |

Where are you having it painted at? Dude who works for a world-leading boat builder here in Seattle. He paints high dollar yachts. This is a side gig for him. I can't say more, but I'm not paying anywhere what you might think I am. you're not painting the windshield frame? He will paint it. I trust this guy's method implicitly. I like the idea of just painting the fenders, then let them dry. Then paint the cowl and windshield frame, less of a chance for sweat to drip on fresh clear coal. Ask me how I know... Matt |

That is getting closer!
Painter might already be doing this: Would recommend removing the side rockers. It's a great opportunity to paint the sill they rest on and gives a nice clean look. They come off very easily. |
