This engine
started out as a 1.7L in a 1972 Porsche 914/4. It has been
bored out to 1911cc with 96mm big bore pistons. The heads have
been machined out to accodomate the overbored cylinders and
the top end was put together by a reputable shop. The block is
around 86 thousand miles old but the top end (heads, valves,
pistons, cylinders, rockers) are only 11 thousand miles old.
It has dual Weber 40 IDF downdraft carburetors which are
included with the engine. The alternator is also included.
Almost everything is in good shape with one exception. In the
accident, the throttle linkage bar was pushed back and snapped
the throttle plate on the right carburetor. You will have to
replace the throttle plates and the linkage bar. Otherwise the
engine is in great condition. It does leak somewhat (that's
how you know it's from a Porsche) but not excessively. You'll
notice a large patch of oil if you leave it in one place for a
couple of weeks though.
I have never actually run it on a dyno but I estimate the
horsepower to be around 100-105 horsepower. Engine response is
good and smooth and there is no excessive noise. One problem I
have noticed however is if you go over a lot of rough bumps or
potholes, the idle speed sometimes jumps up to 2000-2600 rpm,
but this was always easily fixable by adjusting the carburetor
droplinks. Otherwise it idles smoothly at 1k rpm.
Sorry but I will not ship this engine. Local pickup only,
please. I live near Trenton, NJ 08690.
I am parting out all the parts I could save from my 914, so
if there is a specific part you're looking for please contact
me and I will see if I have it. Thanks for your interest!
