HI all -
looking for a good -6 engine to drop into a 914. Looking for something that does not need a ton of work, maybe has a matched gearbox, and that will provide a serious boost in performance. Goal is to do some ax, drivers ed events, street able and reliable.
2.7? 3.0? 3.2? kicked up 2.2? turbo? what's available?
Budget around $5k
show me show me show me
thanks

That seller is Henry Schmidt....great guy. If he says it is a good engine, you can believe him. He is down here in Fallbrook, CA.

the 'buying' of the engine for less than $5k is not the problem. I've bought a 2.7 for $3500 and a 3.2 for $4000. It's the work needed to the car and other misc stuff you need that will double (at least) that number:

I've got a motor if you put a 4 in front of your other number - that's right $45k

IMO, the 3.2 engine with it's stock EFI is the PERFECT fit for a 914. Starts up right away, all the time, has plenty of torque and hp - not too much, not too little.
I have been through the following "6's" in our cars: 2.0, 2.2, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0.
Huey now has a stock 3.2 and Papa Smurf has a 3.4 full twin plug, high compression race engine.
So...do the math. Yes, we could own a vacation home in the Caribbean (and probably one in Vail) for what we've spent on 'upgrading' our cars... But hey, they're going up in value...right??
