I originally "lowered" my drivers side floor about 10 years ago, but just found these photos when I redid things a couple weeks ago.
A "U" was cut in the floor, and then about 1" wide steel strip welded in to lower the floor where the seat mounts. I originally bolted the fiberglass seat directly to the floor with large fender washers, but the fiberglass was starting to look fatigued.
So, I made 2 large straps to sandwich the seat to the floor. The bottom is tack welded in, and the top is just bolted in... See photos... Pretty ugly welding, but it's strong and I like the modification.
I'm 6'6" and fit great with:
- lowered floor
- no seat rails (just bolt the seat to the floor)
- thin seat padding (reupholstered)
- small prototipo steering wheel
- small bend to the shift lever to the right
Looks similar to what Bob Snodgrass had to do to his Brumos car. He was a big guy.
I miss you my friend
Nice work... Even Wilt could get in there, except there's only room for one lucky lady...
that is a clever solution. I see many little details you did to make it all work. nice
I did my dune buggy that way but it is really just to get lower in the body.
