914World.com _ 914World Garage _ WOT-What are you drinking?

Posted by: bob91403 Oct 29 2004, 03:05 AM

Just curious. And I know the masses drink beer. What kind? If you're not drinking beer, what do you drink? Anything interesting? I love Becks. It makes great sourdough bread if you use it instead of water. What do you drink with your beer? I like Gentleman Jack, it's tooo smoooth. Here's a tip. I have a drink that crosses genders and sneaks up on you. I call it a Drunken Sailor. 1/3 dark rum, ice, 2/3 cream soda. It works on the same principal as whiskey and beer. They're both made from the same stuff. That's why they go well together. Women generally don't like whiskey, or beer. Whiskey is nothing but distilled beer. Rum is nothing but distilled sugar, same stuff they make cream soda from. They mix well. Rather sweet, but women like it, and you can't taste how strong it is. It's made me lucky too many times. Have you got a good drink? beerchug.gif beer3.gif

i will drink almost any beer, but my current favorite is Yuengling lager it's from pennsylvania. this is not some trendy micro=brew, Yuengling is the oldest brewery in the united states, founded in 1829.
cheers...

Anything cheep. Or anything you can steel from a frat party.

Ahhh college life. But since I live in Chico, CA a Pale Ale from Sierra Nevada is good.

Fat Tire, Staro Brno (a Czech beer), are good as well.

Posted by: bob91403 Oct 29 2004, 03:37 AM

Yuengling? I've never seen it before. I'll try to find it. Maybe they've never gotten this far west. The only thing that's been around longer than beer is mead. That's what the cavemen drank. Fermented honey.

Posted by: bob91403 Oct 29 2004, 03:41 AM

You want cheap? Try Steel Reserve, at 8.1% it's like drinking two beers. Not a bad taste either. $1 for a 24oz can.

I prefer Coke to Pepsi out of the can. I don't like Dr. Pepper so much from a can. From the fountain, I like Dr. Pepper best, and it's a toss-up between Coke and Pepsi. biggrin.gif

Mountain Dew!!! I have a really low tolerance to alcohol. I can get falling down drunk on one beer. So I am always the designated driver. That has its advantages. When I was still single, a whole bunch of us would go out to a bar, and I would wait until they got really drunk, and hit each one of them up for $20 for gas. The bars always give free sodas to the designated drivers, so I would have a night out, and make a profit. My friends thought they were having a great time and spent the money drinking. They would never remember me asking for gas money, and it was cheaper than spending time in jail for DUI. happy11.gif

agree.gif To quote Abe Vigoda when he played Det. Fish on the sitcom Barney Miller, "Drinking should be done in the privacy of one's home, where it's necessary." Nobody should drink and drive.

Right now it is Coffee Black. Navy style. (strong).
Yuengling I like thier Black and Tan. hard to get here, have to go all the way to Florida.

Then there is Abita Turbo Dog. Louisianna for that.

Posted by: bob91403 Oct 29 2004, 06:26 AM

I never really did drink beer, never aquired a taste for it, in fact I never drank at all much. Didnt like the feeling of no control. Besides, I like to remember what I did the night before and hugging a toilet is not my idea of having fun. I quit drinking sodas about 6 years ago and will never go back. I drink sport waters now, Propel, it tastes good and wont destroy my stomach lining.

Posted by: bob91403 Oct 29 2004, 07:38 AM

Don't drink sports drinks exclusively. Too many minerals. Make sure you still drink eight glasses of water a day. Don't want to see you get stones. "Dilution is the solution to pollution". Water is cleansing.

Water and tea while at work. Occasional soda if I dine out (water is the norm since soda fills me up and I can't burp stfu.gif ) At a bar, almost always long islands. With friends and/or family, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. All bets are off if I'm in Vegas, though. Foot long margaritas, sex on the beach, white russians, etc... beer.gif

But, seriously, I don't drink that much. Can't find that happy buzz anymore. Or it's short lived, right before I get sloopy. wacko.gif I'm a light weight. And/or a cheap date. Which ever way you look at it. confused24.gif

4oz of just about any beer will put me to sleep. So I pretty much stay away from it. Mostly water, milk, occasional juice of some type, no soda at all. And every once in a long while, a beer.gif

Right now, I'm just trying to remember to drink water. Now that it's getting cold, I'm drinking a lot of hot drinks but all the caffeine isn't good. So, water is my choice, when I remember.

(almost) Every meal needs a big glass of milk! Sometimes a glass of wine with lunch or dinner and a coke or pepsi with a burger.

Now, for the times of relaxation it could be a gin & tonic, limeade & gin, Jack & coke or (on the islands) a Mai Tai.

For workin on the teener it's usually always FAT TIRE but if a Bud is all that there is.... that'll do beer.gif beer3.gif drunk.gif

Old Speckled Hen? I keep hearing about all these beers they don't send to the west coast. I'm going to go postal and shoot up the budweiser plant I used to work at in Van Nuys, before they drained the pond, and closed Busch Gardens. We had the HIGHEST waterfall in the San Fernando Valley. (I was a sky trolley tour guide when I was eighteen, best job in the park.)

Any decent ale is fine by me. I don't really drink any of the amican "piss water" beers. If we have booze in the house it is usually vodka, rum, or tequilla. We have vodka tonics, cubra libre (sp), and marguaritas. Can't have Wild Turkey in the house because it makes my wife crazy.

If you want to try something really interesting check this out. I used to work with native Alaskans quite a bit and most of their villages are dry (no alcohol), so the make "homebrew". Now this is not the same type of homebrew that is an ale or lager this stuff is much different. Basically you take a 5 gallon bucket, dump in a bunch of juice usually grape but most any kind will work. Then you add some sugar, several cups, measurements are not so crucial here. Last is yeast, regular beer brewing yeast if they can get ahold of it but if not just plain bread yeast. Mix it all up, cover the bucket so the flies don't get in but not to tight 'cause you need air to be able to escape. Stick it in a corner for a few days, 3 will work but a week is better, if you can wait that long, they can't. Drink up and watch out.

Posted by: Headrage Oct 29 2004, 11:14 AM

agree.gif I don't care too much for american brews except some of the micros. Love Guiness or Heinekin dark. Favorite is John Courage if I can find it. If doing the hard stuff it's either old no. 7 or rum and cokes. Most of the time it's water or diet coke. biggrin.gif

Posted by: bob91403 Oct 29 2004, 11:20 AM

That goes by a lot of different names. Pruno, applejack, the list goes on and on. Home brew is interesting, especially if you do it like the south american natives do. They throw in some mushrooms. Only used for ritual tribal council tripping, sometimes only if your a shaman or witchdoctor. Freaky Deaky.

I vote for Southpaw. Made by Plankhouse - low in carbs, high in alcohol. By the way Yuengling is also made here in Tampa.

Ahh hell, I drink pretty much anything. Something to try with a cheap beer; pour an ounce or two of Barardi Lemon into it. Doubles the potency of the beer, and makes it taste like a squeeze of lemon was added. Good stuff! beerchug.gif

I use to drink Gin & Tonic in my youth....one day I ran out of Tonic and used Coke instead......that was 35 years ago and have been drinking Gin & Coke ever since. I go into bars and resturants and when I order it I get funny looks or they recognize the drink rather than my face.

The drink itself tastes like pine cones, but the gins gets me drunk and the coke/caffeine keeps me awake.

Apparently Absinthe is making a comeback. There is a Frech brand called "La Fee Absinthe" claiming to be made the original way with the wormwood available for sale worldwide.

And a brand called "Hill's Absinth" available in Canada, UK and other countries but no the US. Hill's Absinth contains the psychoactive and essential ingredient, wormwood (artemisia ABSINTHIUM) smile.gif

from what i understand (i used to be into such things) they refine it so that the active amount of thujone (found in the wormwood) is only in trace amounts. so yes, it's made with wormwood, but no it is not going to get you high. you'll pass out from alcohol poisoning long before you'll see green fairies sad.gif sorry...

One liver, two lobes to it though. Bet you didn't know you could donate half of your liver to save someones life, and IT WOULD GROW BACK!

Beer?. Red Hook Nut Brown Ale is my favorite. I seem to aquired a taste for fine Merlot latley. If not that, I have been known to sip a Vodka Martini or a Jack Daniels on the rocks

Oh man... Where do I begin? Well, first you start with a really well stocked home bar. Then you get very creative. Tonight it's Woodford Reserve, tommorow...? I really don't drink all that much anymore. Burned myself out when I could still handle the consequences. Still enjoy a drink now and again. Tonight I have to be good so I can get up early and drive to San Jose biggrin.gif That reminds me... I gota new bottle of Single Malt last week for my birthday. I gotta go... drooley.gif

Went shopping at Safeway last night for dinner stuff & wanted to get some wine for the Saturday night Birthday celebration taking place at my wifes parents. Most of them are really into their wines & always wanting to try new ones. That's when I saw this Shiraz....

Should, could, .... (might) be pretty good cool.gif

Usually Cazadores tequila and Bohemia cerveza, though right now it's Spaten Optimator. Other choice is Abita's "Purple Haze"--perfect with Carolina BBQ.

I don't drink.

When I do drink, I like Wild Turkey 101, Stolitchnaya martinis, and expensive champagne, not mixed.

I used to drink half a case of Heineys, and split a bottle of Cuervo Gold two ways, at least 6 nights a week.

I like coffee, me and coffee are brothers. I am turning 40 next month, on my 35th year of coffee addiction.

I'm a little surprised that no one has listed this one yet:

CHIMAY

Its a belgian beer, made by Trappist monks. You can get it at some restaurants and Trader Joe's have it in larger bottles with corks (kinda like a high class european 40). Just got introduced to it recently and I swear its the best beer I've ever had.

Posted by: anderssj Nov 17 2004, 07:53 PM

You're right--that is a good one. Another good Belgian is "Duvel," also worth a try.

Cheers,

2. Mr Pibb or Dr Pepper (I'm a southerner, but not Georgian)
3. Dinkle Acker

Say, does anyone else like cookies & beer (YUM!)?

I need to get back into homebrewing. Its easy to make really good beers if you have a good recipe. Right now my favorite is Sweetwater 420, a local brewed right here in Atlanta. Its a real hoppy pale ale.

Posted by: mattillac Nov 19 2004, 12:38 AM

take a few swigs of your favorite 40oz and then fill it back up with some pulpy orange juice. a "breakfast drink".
it's good, i swear. givemebeer.gif

Wow, 1152 views and 100 replies! I never thought, when I started this thread, it would be so popular. And, I've heard of so many regional beers that I've never seen before. We need to set up a beer exchange program to allow us less fortunate ones to exchange these intriguing brews. A six pack exchange program? beerchug.gif

Generally speaking, I might have a Saphire Martini after work, with bleu cheese stuffed olives (and maybe on jalapeno stuffed one too).

Beer is fine. Hate vodka because I do not see the point in drinking a beverage that is designed not to have a taste.

Other than gin, I prefer my liquor brown. I don't drink alot, but when I do, I want something good and I want to taste that something good on its own. No mixes (other than H20). Glenmorangie Port finish is awesome, and Knob Creek is a fav too.

Love big hearty wines with meals. Prefer reds, but like dry, crisp whites too. Don't like sparkling at all.

Other than that, water, or decaf tea/cofee. Unfortunately, Caffeine makes me wackier than I already am.

Wow! This IS a great place! Not only does everyone here love 914s, but there are also quite a few home brewers AND lovers of Knob Creek! w00t.gif

Yup I've had The blackened VOO DOO. Now that stuff has some flavor. Makes Guiness seem like a lite beer. You will shit Black for a few days. That is after your hangover clears.
