914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Front trunk Drain tubes $3.50 each GB open til Feb 1st
Posted by: Mikey914 Dec 9 2012, 10:39 PM
As I mention later in the Thread brad Mayer had mentioned these may be no longer available in the future, that's why I took these on. I'm making these out of a more durable silicone, so these should last longer.
These should be ready to ship in January.
Let me know if you need any.

Damn I should have known that, mine is still there.
Posted by: Mikey914 Dec 9 2012, 11:02 PM
Wow that was quick.
I started the tooling on these, and will have them in about 4 weeks. Just working out the pricing now. Should be about $3.85 a pop. Really need to sell 100 sets to make it pencil out.

Front trunk drain plugs but... They're readily available.

Brad Mayer came to me and said the supply has dried up and wanted to know if I'd make them for him. SO .. I started the tooling. These will also be made from a more durable silicone.

Not trying to rain on the parade, I was just thinking you were into NLA things. 911.025.612.00. Carry on.
Posted by: rdauenhauer Dec 9 2012, 11:40 PM
Now a bigger ? is how many cars actually still have these attached?
Im guessing very few.
But the LE does
Posted by: euro911 Dec 9 2012, 11:51 PM
They're also found in some early 911/912 headlight buckets ...
Posted by: mrbubblehead Dec 10 2012, 12:13 AM
where do they go exactly? anybody have a picture?
Posted by: Mikey914 Dec 10 2012, 12:37 AM
I was unable to locate the part in the 914 diagram either, so I couldn't find a part number. I trusted Brad knows what's up with these, so started the tooling.
And possibly these are drying up.
I try to get a jump on some of the stuff I have in the works as the product production takes 8-12 weeks. these are 4 weeks in with the tooling being produced now, I should be able to pull 1st articles in the next 10 days or so. So I started the thread to get these out there. With the tax laws potentially changing I needed to throw more cash at tooling as tooling will not be able to be directly written off, it will have to go on a schedule.
Anyhow these are comming. the good news is they are less expensive, and will be silicone, so they should outlast the OEMs.

I think the thing hanging down in the front under the spare tire there. They seem a bit wrong, long tubes hanging down, backwards udder nipples

Mark, I'm in for the 3-4 of these required at the front trunk + a couple of spares. I think I've only found 1 or 2 NOS ones so far online.
Also, I'm going to PM or email you on another possible product for you for Vanagons a bit later today/tonight.
Thanx for doing these!

Let us know when they are available. One of my originals is broken off, and I would replace all on my 73, I believe I need 3? I'll count when I next take the winter cover off.

2 needed for the 914, in the front trunk. The two holes they fit are self-evident. They were also used on the 356s and 911s

Yep, in one of those little plastic bags with the barcode sticker with the German and all that. I love that stuff. The only disappointment so far ordering rubber from George for me has been side marker boots, the chinese oem ones look suspect to me.
This isn't the thread to go in that direction, though. Pelican has the drain things, too I think.

Posted by: RFoulds Dec 13 2012, 09:07 AM
I will take one dozen. Let me know when you need payment. Oly Blue had them in place, and they were perfect. Willow Green has one, and the other projects have none. Might as well stockpile.
Posted by: mepstein Dec 13 2012, 09:24 AM
I'll take 10. Thanks, Mark

Thanks guys,
I appreciate the support.
To make these and sell at a reasonable price, I really need quantity and the cost to set up and make these is a significant investment.

I'll join the parade.
Can you put me down for 6....and I have to sort out/order some other items as well, will send an email.
Thanks

I'll take a dozen
Posted by: jim_hoyland Dec 13 2012, 06:09 PM
I'll put in an order; just gotta count the holes.... And, thanks for making another new part for the 914s.
Posted by: BKLA Dec 13 2012, 06:35 PM
I'll take four - thinking about adding 2 of them to the rear truck - one each below the tail lights. Even with new light seals, I still get water in there!
Posted by: pete000 Dec 13 2012, 07:04 PM
What a funny looking thing !
Mine is long gone. I will take 2
Are they on all years?

The 4 in the trunk were from holes I added. I used to get puddles behind the tai lights, so I added my own drains. Otherwise, three would be correct- unless you want to carry a spare...

As far as I know these were All years, I don't have any early cars to check, but as these have 356 application I suspect they were there too.

Got the tooling done for the 1st part. Still need a little tweaking, but I'm happy. I changed the opening slightly to help create a better low pressure area. This should help to draw water out (at least that's the plan).

Will the drain tubes allow rust particles to pass ? How large a particle is gonna block the drain ?

Depends on how big they are
I did make the
"hole" on the bottom larger and made the corners square to make it harder to collapse. The material is slightly harder durometer. These should be oriented with the widest side against the wind (as Eric has shown), and as it gets blown back the low pressure area that is behind the profile will help suck out water.

Seems like the hell hole drain plug could use a redesign to something like this.

These are made for a 14mm hole, if that helps. not sure how much airflow is up that high, but they could at least gravity drain.
