I can't seem to find good jack stands at least the top. What do you consider the best jack stands for a 914?

Make sure there they have a pin in them. The ones with a lever are known to fail.
The best 914 jackstands are ones that can be removed from under a 914. There are some which once your 914 is put up on them they get stuck almost like welded under your 914. It's like you can't get them out from under there. Strange really......
These are the best ones I have found. Since the bottom of the car is flat, they work well for for when both ends are off the ground. They are a little weird to use when you are lifting just 1 end though.

The best free standing (triangle) ones have a circle welded on the top that just fits around the donuts on the bottom of our cars. Great for CA where we have big earthquakes.
Two post lift.
