Father's Signal Orange 914 2.0 with 88,000 original miles is now mine! A few details: No mechanical faults. Black interior, Non-appearance group but with center console and gauges, lowered with Koni shocks, "2 Litre" Fuchs wheels and new 195/65-15 Pirelli P6000 tires. Otherwise stock and very clean. No rust too! Porsche has been in dry storage in Palo Alto for 16 years. Last DMV registration was 1988 - so long ago that the VIN dropped off the DMV records! Now re-registered in my name. New home will be Sunnyvale. I'll post a few pics when the car is running again.
Sweet, can't wait to see her!

Yeah, welcome to the club, if you decide to sell your car, I will be the first to offer you $1000.00 for it. Cash!
Welcome. I am just a stone's throw away in Milpitas. Let me know if you ever need anything.

Man mine is ugly and rusty and I would not sell it for less than 3k. And after all me and that car has been through I would be sad seeing it go. But I know my car aint worth 3k so I dont have to worry about being sad seeing it go. But the smiley feeling I get behind the wheel is worth more than that 3k anyway. I was following a custom tircked out small Chevy on I-75 in Fla Saturday we were both doing 95mph for about 10min when my wizer wife suggested I slow it down some. When I did a min later we saw 3 troopers busy with tickets and the third was the Chevy. Got lucky there it was fun while it lasted I was smiling alot that day!

Welcome to the club!
welcome aboard!
lot's of 914 action in your hood
oh... if those "near new" pirelli's are 16 old, get some new ones before they disintegrate
(they may look good, but the compound is completely dried out by now)
cheers,
Jeroen
Welcome to the madhouse.

Welcome to the zoo. There is no question that can't be answered here, from headlight mechanisms to the meaning of life. If nobody knows the answer, we'll make one up.
Bring on dem pics.
Welcome, seems to be a trend recently with people getting their dads cars. Did he buy it new?
Welcome, too many of you ppl in Cali have 914's and nice ones at that.
Have fun here.
Well, thank you everyone for the nice welcome! My father is the second owner. I remember the day he brought it home. I can't believe it's been thirty years since then. First owner purchased the car from Carlsen and kept it for less than one year. The tires are brand new because the 914 was sitting on skinny little 155/80-15 Michelin XZX's. Remember those? I should have some pics for everyone in the next day or two.
Thanks!
Welcome aboard! I work in Sunnyvale and bring the teener on dry days! gotta love that signal orange!
Congrats
I also obtained a car last year that had not been registered since '88. But it sat outside in a storage yard most of that that time.
One of the issue you will probably face from that long storage is hardened seals and leaky hoses from things like fuel injection system and pushrod tubes, brakes, master cylinder, oil cooler.
With the help of this site I have replaced all of those items relatively easily this year. Do a search when you start to have issues and you will be amazed at the detailed information you will find.
Enjoy the ride.
On that same note, and since we dont know what your mechanical skills may be, if you are going to try to start it up for the first time..... let us know and search the site for info on what to look for first to avoid gas fires, massive oil leaks, no brakes....etc.... I'm sure that someone has a list of what to check, where to look and what not to do for that first startup after sooooooooo long sitting..
Good Luck! these cars are fun as hell, and once running are the worlds best decompression chamber after a long day at work!!
Thank you for the input! Yes, I expect hardened push rod seals and concerned about plastic fuel lines. A reputable shop in my area will be taking care of getting the car going again and into my garage.
Pictures coming tonight.
Cool, We can hardly wait to see this bad boy. Are you planning on showing it off? There is the WCC coming up in April and we would love to have you come out and make a showing.
WCC in April? Oh yeah! I'll be there with the ride!
Welcome!...can't wait to see this beauty!
Jim
p.s. I get more and more jealous of all you west coasters...914 people are far and few between here in the midwest!
Welcome to the board.... its all here. I'm in Campbell and have a similar "time warp" car - 74 2.0 fuchs, 8 track, etc.
With such an original car, there's the temptation to build a modified car. Do whatever you want but the original 73s and 74s are getting harder to find, and your car may ultimately be worth more (it means the most to keep it) if you keep it as original as you can.
Congratuations on the car - have a great time with it!!!

Battery Tray with little or no rust. I wonder if those fuel lines are safe to use....

Incredible condition!!
I'll give you $2000 for it right now.....do you deliver?
I changed the fuel lines in my '74 mainly because I didn't trust the rubber OEM parts (dry rot) of the fuel system, but the rigid nylon (mat'l?) hoses seemed relatively sound.
You've got a nice car there my friend!
FYI - The preferred battery for these cars is the red topped Optima. It's a gel cell battery that keeps battery acid from washing down and rusting out your hell-hole forward and below your battery tray (you'd know why it's called that if you ever had to repair it)
Wow! That's just awesome!
after looking at those gorgeous pictures.......you suck! I want a deal like that! Here in the midwest our come in that color...it's just not the paint that is that color!

Nice car. I especially dig the original paint on the interior.
i don't know what i like best; the awesome color (with absence of sail panels noted ( ), the lack of horror in the hell hole, or the momo prototipo steering wheel.
the car is beautiful! more pics would be fine, and you will find that the members here don't mind shots of odd places... longs, engine bay, under the carpet, rear window seals, etc., etc., etc. they even tolerate pictures of dogs in the snow!
You folks crack me up! Thanks for the funny comments. Yes, I feel very lucky that my father kept the 914 in great condition.
Mr. Special K: I am looking at an Optima battery because of the internal spiral cell encased in gel design however the Optima website does not show a batttery model for the 914. Should I simply get an Optima battery that matches the original spec (12v 45AH)? Thanks!
very, very sweet. Congrats and welcome.
Now read this entire website so you can discover all the things you need to "fix"
Just kidding, but beware once you start messin around with these cars, there is a really slippery slope out there. you'll be thinking about more hp, etc if your not careful.
enjoy
Haven't posted here before, just joined up myself. I have to say if the car is in as good of shape as it looks in the pictures, you really have something special there. I wouldn't change a thing on it. Congrats.
Erik
congrats and welcome!!!
it's nice to know that there are still a few little jewels like that left, who knows what else is hidden away.
Erik,
welcome also!!! always glad to see more fl. teeners!! get us some pics!!
doug
Midtowner - the Optima (red top) model #34R is the one to use. The "R" designates reversed poles (-,+) so your cables will reach.
I looked at your pics again. Man, that's like a "time capsule car", no cracks in the dash or anything.......got a keeper there!!
Thank you for the battery info! I'll get one tomorrow! Wahoo!
Damn, Time Warp, We're back in the 1970's
Yeah, the 1970's - back when you could actually work on your car without an EE degree!

And the 50GHz laptop!
Erik
Gorgeous car...I can hardly wait to see it.
I hope you will bring it out to one of our 9:14 club Bay Area Breakfasts real soon...we will bring mops and buckets to wipe up the drool....you bring guards to keep us away from it...
There is a large contingent of 914 lovers nearby....
This is an unusual find, as general knowlege is that all 73 2.0L cars came with appearance and sport group accessory packages as standard fare...yours only has the sport group. I bet it was a special order car with by the first owner or the dealership.
Your car made my day and I needed a pick-me-up after todays job...
A blast from the past!
She's a real beauty!
How much are you asking for your ??
Look's to me like the only tool you'll need for awhile is a small screw driver to adjust the points once-in-a-while.
Congrats!
You are one lucky guy!
Have fun with that car, looks great.
