914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Broken Shift Lever

Posted by: bcheney Apr 2 2014, 09:05 PM

My shift lever in the 6 conversion is broken. It's rotating and looks like the weld broke free. See video to see what I am talking about. Can this be welded or would it just be better to replace with a recoditioned unit?

They werent welded but epoxied. Weld it. It'll never happen again

Be sure you get all the epoxy off before you weld it. You could zap it with a MIG ot TIG and do it right in the car. Won't get hot enough to hurt the plastic down below.

I had the same thing happen. I mixed up some JB Weld and it has been holding for years.

West system epoxy worked like a charm. JB weld would work well. There is a lot of contact area for the epoxy.
