I am in the market for a Finish Nailer and stumbled across the new dewalt. It will be for upcoming home improvment and woodworking projects starting with a linin closet and then a kitchen, bathrooms, built in bookcase etc.

Does anyone have a opinion about such matters? Ya right, who dosn't. Does anyone have any first hand experience?

only DeWalt tool i have is my ..... works great even after cutting up a few teeners IPB Image

I have a Paslode gas framing nailer which I love and a Porter Cable brad nailer (air powered, PITA sometimes due to the air hose), but it has never let me down.

For the occasional user (which I am), I think the DeWalt should be fine

A brad nailer works best for light work.....I like Senco, but I have a compressor and am not "up" on the latest portable type nailers. IIRC, they accept 1/2 to 1-5/8 brads....which are much less likely to split trim/edge on plywood/MDF. I find myself using the brad nailer for 80% of my projects....not to include 914 stuff. Finish nailers are for hanging doors & what not.

I do not have experience with the newer and more powerful cordless tools. Do you already have a compressor? I think one drawback for cordless is that they are more expensive overall than air drive. If you are looking at purchasing several styles you would end up paying quite a bit more. I would also question their ability to retain power over time. You may be able to drive a 2 1/2" nail into hardwood when new but have trouble after a while. I know compressors and hoses can be a hassle but if most of your work is in a shop it wouldn't be too bad.

The paslode or whatever gas ones are real nice. Not sure how they compare $ wise, but I am sure it is better than a battery powered Dewalt. I know a few people that use the Paslode or whatever ones daily, and have no complaints.

I just took a look at it.

I am getting one and I have both a bostich and paslode air nailers for finish.

the advantage is no gas cartriges.
Another huge plus is that you can use the 18 volt dewalt batteries for other tools.

Its a great looking tool!!
