914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Awww...pretty parts

I got my transmission and rear control arms bead blasted to clean them up and make them look nice...and they look great. This is a mag case transmission so I soaked it with WD-40 after the blasting to give it a nice look once the oxidation starts. All I need to do now is get all of the other parts together and taken to be powdercoated.

I love a good bead blast session. Those looks amazing. IPB Image

Yea, they turned out really nice. I need to get all my other parts together now to get powdercoated.

Have you seen the progress on the car so far...I think the dash looks awesome after you guys painted it. I have 99% of the OEM wiring done so far. I need to add some relays for headlights and start wiring up the Electromotive unit.

Accurate powdercoating down the street from WEVO. He is the same guy that did all the candy apple red parts for Brad and does all of Haydens work.

He first blasts the parts with aluminum oxide and then hits them with glass beads. The finish is awesome.

Lookin' good man! I'm excited. We need the play by play. More updates! IPB Image

Here's something a little familiar.

RED!

Thats a lot of red...I thought you hated RED!

When do you guys move into your new shop?

I am working on getting all the suspension done so that I can get the car off the rotesserie. I will be doing roller bearings all around (Mueller's in the front and the new WEVO system in the rear)...it should ride like a Caddy!

I am also gathering all the parts for the transmission rebuild. That includes updating the internals to strenghten the weak spots.

We move in... not soon enough. Early Feb, hopefully.

Oh, and I do dislike RED. But I like green. IPB Image

saweeeeet!!!
Is it possible to clear powdercoat the tranny?

Posted by: Doug Leggins Jan 12 2005, 11:04 AM

Awe man I wish I hand't seen that tranny - lol.

I've been considering what to do with my tranny - clean it up a little or a lot. I think that I just saw the answer. That looks great!

Why the WD 40 Soaking?

I have been informed by several people that clear coating powdercoating bear metal parts is not recommended. It does not adhere very well and it will start flaking off and those areas will discolor.

The soaking in WD-40 will give it a nice uniform color when oxidation sets in, or so I have been told.

A;lthough it may look nice, glass beading is notorious for getting those little beads EVERYWHERE!. Not something I would have cone to an assembled tranny, possibly even a disassembled one. I've seen to much carnage ................................................ The Cap'n

You can use clear epoxy primer

The transmission was completely sealed up prior to blasting. I have been working closely with Hayden at WEVO and this is the same procedure that he uses on all his transmissions...no problems so far.

Britain,
Can you list the costs for:
-bead blasting the tranny
-powdercoating (It looks like you are doing a bunch of parts)
Looks sweet!

The bead blasting of the transmission was $60. I am not sure how much all the powdercoating will be, but I will let you all see the pictures and let you know how much.
