After Amilia it was off to Chattanooga to pick up Kents -6
pictures of the engine showed what we thought was 5400 on the engine but once I got in close read 5409 with my phone ringing... it was Porsche calling to confirm/deny if 5400 was a match so it was perfect timing and got the confirmation it's a match For 5409
Loaded it up and hit the road

Andy, did you check with the California Coastal Commission, CARB and the EPA about bringing that rusty six into the state?

Good thing the engine wasn't 5400 as that is my engine #. What the chassis #? Mine ends in 2125

Your spending the nite in Arkansas? Now listen to me very carefully. Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT accept any offers to go fishing or camping with anyone. No matter who.

I'm pretty sure I know where Kent got the 6 from..
Get it home and let's see the resto work.

Hey Andy,
If you make it to eastern OK, There's a good BBQ place in Sallisaw called Wild Horse, off the 2nd or western-most exit south of I-40 on US59 & off to the left on old 59 with a sign at the turn-off of the 4-laner (locals can guide you). A Hole in the Wall place, but the pix of folks who have eaten there speaks for it. Get the HOT BBQ if you can take it!
Best place to stay in Sallisaw is the Days Inn across from a small Cherokee Casino at the same exit on 59 north of I-40 (I usually stay there), or the Cherokee Inn by the bigger Cherokee Casino in Roland at the US 64 exit off I-40 (20 miles east of Sallisaw on I40 closer to the AR border).
On the AR side of the line is - the Ft. Smith etc. area & they have more hotel/motel & chain restaurant choices.
Further west the smaller towns are similar with small motels until you get near Shawnee & OKC area, but I don't know theirs as well, since I usually bomb straight thru to my destination of Sallisaw.
So not only is the journey (west) beginning, but the journey again
on another resto too!
Safe Travels!
Tom

You might want to take the car off of the trailer & just tow it directly when driving through Flagstaff. They don't use road salt there & use volcanic pumice/basalt instead. It blasts the bottom of the car to bare metal- I know from personal experience.

It was there last we checked.

Throttle linkage dashpot. It's to pull the linkage down to the idle position, after the rpm drops below a specific speed. Most of those are long gone
If you were on I40, I'm about 20 miles from exit 126 in TN

Two more questions in that picture.
Why is there an ignition condenser attached to the fan shroud ?
Does the engine turn ?

I have a project six. Not a 914 but a '71 911E.
Plenty of TN rust too!
Matching numbers per COA
Have most/all the missing parts.
Not really for sale, but I would entertain unreasonable offers.

Don't know and we will see if we can turn the motor in a few hours when we get to the shop. Here's a shot from Flagstaff. Almost done with the cross country round trip

Finally home and got the car unloaded and inside. The -6 was parked after a carb fire since they were not rebuild-able so it was a running driving car at that point. Engine does turn over but we lost the suspension console on the Pass. side along the way but Kent has replaced one before on my project.
More pictures later today...

Wow ... you didn't turn around and retrieve it? It's a REAL SIX console and probably worth at least $20K. Replacement means it won't be a real six anymore.

Hey Drew, thanks for making everything go so smooth in this long distance transaction and all your help and extras. Quite an adventure. I can't wait to get started on this one but first I will be focused on Jim's 6. I finally own a 6 and I plan on restoring it dead stock. It's rusty yes but cool to see all the rare and original 6 parts that are there. I just picked up some rear calipers for it and there in good hands with Eric at PMB. I plan on rounding up parts for now and hopefully start on it by the end of the year.

Andy! Thanks for everything! I don't know if I'm as cool as you. I don't know if I would be as easy going and lend myself and vehical to help tow a car back for someone else. You could have easily just headed home and skipped the extra work. Thanks!
Andy called me and said that he could grab the 6 I bought on the way back from his trip to Amelia Island so the next day I called him and said I would fly out and meet him in Tennessee. Everything went perfectly. I flew out Sunday night and was in Chattanooga TN. about 30 minutes before Andy. He picked me up at the airport and we headed to a Uhaul about 20 minutes away, where I had reserved a trailer. after we got the trailer, Drew's place was about a 20 minute drive from there. We loaded the car and parts and headed to a hotel for the night. We woke up at 6 the next morning and hit the road. We were home by Thursday night. Couldn't have gone any better.
Thanks again Andy, your too fricken cool.
