914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Restoration Questions...

I'm in the process of restoring a 1974 914 2.0 from CA - no rust -
that was brought to Nash TN in 2002 & promptly wrecked in the passenger front
side - fender & door. I rescued it from the garage where it was
parked by the previous owner. It is scheduled to go into the body
shop soon.

Couple of issues:

I need a windshield any suggestions - no local auto glass shops seem
to have a source. I can go to AA or through the usual repro glass
mail order shops for big $$$. Any suggestions?

Electrical problem/issue - 1st all of the fuses have been checked &
replaced with new good ones, the fuse block has been cleaned with
contact cleaner & they all fit tight.

Here's the symptoms the wipers, horn, cig. lighter & heater blower
do not function? During the accident the horn pod came off. I fixed
the wire and remounted the center button - still will not work .

All other electrical is operational. Any suggestions?

A PPG shop can special order the windshield - at least they can here in Glendale, Az. I think the price installed was around $350 to $400. The shop[ said it would a couple of days to get it in.

We don't have the aftermarket sources that you guy's have, but the OEM version is available through the Porsche dealership. Mine was in Australia six days after ordering. Cost me A$580 (about US$435), fitting it myself, but considering that the 914 was never available here, I'm happy.

Glasurit and PPG seem to be available from any independent Porsche shop.

A few years back, I called a "big chain" autoglass place, she told me she could get one in 3 days, she still had a listing in her cataloge. Maybe things change. If your stuck check the classifieds for someone parting out a 914.

I think all of the systems you list are powered by one particular round relay that sits on top of the fuse panel. Try swapping the relays there with the ones that work the headlight motors. If the problem moves, then you know you have a bad relay.
