914World.com _ 914World Garage _ New GB door cards early and late LIKE OEM!

Posted by: Mikey914 Nov 20 2015, 07:28 AM

Yes we will still be doing the fiberglass door cards so don't worry.
We have noticed that the fiberglass is a superior material, but many cars don't see much action in the rain, and the OEM cards have held up for over 30 years in some cases.

We wanted to make an inexpensive way to make your doors look like new for much less. Leaving you more money for other things you need.

So we set out to replicate the the factory style door panels.

So who is interested in a new set of door panels?
Early, late and with a variety of colors

What do you need?

We plan to be able to start shipping end of Jan early Feb.

Note the panel shown is the fiberglass more pics to come as we progress.

am I first in line?
I'm in for late, White. These are for my build-off car. - will also be needing white back pads --- wink.gif

Posted by: Mikey914 Nov 20 2015, 07:48 AM

These will be fiberboard. We may have an option for a more durable material, depends on a few variables.
We are looking at Fiberglass alternatives due to supply constrictions. We have a difficult time moving fiberglass in bulk due to unreliability in the supply chain.

Still will have those, and will carry them. We are gearing up for mass production and we do hope to be able to include more than just the cards, it's a matter of what costs really are. SO for now door cars OEM style only (Fiberboard).

Am I understanding this?

Rigid cardboard door cards pre-covered in early or late pattern to match the original with the smooth vinyl door top bolster for $169.00 Just pop them on? They would come as pictured only with the original style door card.

In for an early set aktion035.gif

Could offer that, would be a little extra, depending on exactly what you want drop a picture on the thread and see. The more I do the less expensive of an add on, as set up is most of the cost.

It hasn't. We are actually looking at trying to make the fiberglass more affordable, we are to the point that we can go either way, but are working with our fiberglass guy to try to reduce the cost of the better product.

Too Brittle, There are some plastics we can use and are evaluating for the best option. Paper is still cheapest, but trying to get away from it.
Mark

Posted by: Chris Pincetich Apr 21 2016, 01:28 PM

I was going to try to create some with new vinyl on corrugated plastic, 100% recycled content, but then got lazy and was waiting for this Group Buy. The corrugated plastic sheets seem perfect for the flat part, but need something for the top where it has the curve and thicker padding.
I hope we can get yours soon beerchug.gif

Posted by: Mikey914 Apr 21 2016, 11:55 PM

If these were flat it would be a non even. It's the fact there is an undercut top bolster, and the 3 prongs that fit into the door itself. The fiberglass is a very nice way to do these, it's just more expensive, I went back to James and he looking at doing these in a larger quantity to get a better materials break and setting up a few more molds. He should have the numbers back to me in a few days. The other issue was the aluminum strips were about $7 a door set. So I'm cutting the die to make them to help bring down the cost. I'm hoping that if we can get within $25 of the cardboard it would be the best option and price.

Posted by: BillC Apr 22 2016, 09:14 AM

Have you looked at ABS sheet as a substrate? Not horribly expensive, easy to cut and vacuum-thermo-form, not brittle and readily available in different thicknesses. And probably much less labor-intensive than fiberglass.

Posted by: 914forme Apr 22 2016, 10:01 AM

King starboard, you can staple to it, easily machined, use it a lot in my boat restorations.

Can be heavy, but works very well

Posted by: Mikey914 Apr 23 2016, 12:38 AM

Looks like we will have a resolution this next week.

Posted by: Mikey914 Apr 29 2016, 01:47 AM

Well we have some resolution on this. It will NOT be fiberglass.

We will make them with 2 options, identical to OEM, and another in plastic. The plastic will be a little more, but will not have the problems the fiberboard does.

We plan to have the 1st sets /sets at WCR. At least that's our goal.

So sign up now !

[size=4]Just a heads up, I don't own the rights to the artwork so.... you might want to hold off on that..

Posted by: Mikey914 Jun 5 2016, 06:42 PM

We have finally got the process selected and are proceeding to the tooling phase for the door panel GB. It's taken longer than we wanted as we originally hoped to work this out with our fiberglass provider. Unfortunately this did not work out, and we have committed to the tooling to make these out of a just as durable ABS plastic that can withstand the water, and make an OEM looking panel. We have added the nut plate that was not previously on the fiberglass ones. We also include all 3 upper mounting tabs attached to allow you to pop them right in.

We are in the pre-buy phase. What this means is that they can take 4-6 weeks before you have in hand, but you lock in your cost. If the costs go up, and they may a little, you are buying at the lower cost just like we did with the dashes.

So if you plan to replace your door panels now's the time. These are sold without the door clips in them, but we have available if you need them. You can reuse yours or we can sell you more.

Thanks for your support, so we can make these parts more reasonably.
You can find these here -

http://www.shop.914rubber.com/Door-pannel-GB-Preorder-914DPGB.htm

As far as RS panels we have added the option.
Thanks to all for your patience, these are finally moving forward.

Will the smooth panel still have the stock door handle opening or only the RS have that?
BTW,
Tried to order, but didn't see Black and are the inner door boxes still on back order?

Posted by: Mikey914 Jun 7 2016, 10:14 AM

The smooth would have the door handle cut out unless you request it without them cut.
The boxes are currently backordered, but we will have that resolved in about a week or so.

MY old ones have extra holes from a period machined metal kick plate.

Some day I'll order carpets too, just not 'there' yet. I'll probably get the closest to OEM look.

We are starting to get these out this next week. And will be closing the GB in about a week.

Are the Black RS ones no longer $168?

Posted by: Mikey914 Jul 23 2016, 09:47 PM

RS is an adder. And yes as we are getting to production we have realized our costs are more, so price was raise accordingly.
The moral of the story is those that step up 1st have the price locked in. Even if we loose money. Thats our commitment to those that step up.

Also these will be closed on the end of the month. Panels are produced in order of when they are purchased. We anticipate 3 weeks to end of the line. Hopefully less, but thats our schedule as it sits right now.

Nine per door, right Mark?

Posted by: 7TPorsh Aug 8 2016, 09:17 AM

Looks like Sierra Madre has them for 11 in a set so maybe 11 per door? or 10 and an extra 1> still seems expensive.

Thanks all!

Do we get notified when our set ships? I'd just like to make sure that I know if it doesn't show up when it is supposed to.

I received an email notification from 914rubber when mine shipped and then FedEx tracking emails while in transit.

Got my GB smooth panels for 914-6 last week. Beautiful and fit perfectly. They are also the absolute correct smooth shiny vinyl as per factory. Glad I jumped on the deal.
Big thanks to Mikey.

Guys always sell off group buy purchases within 3-6 months of purchase. Not because there is anything wrong with the parts, just because plans change.
Sometimes Mikey has extras...

Posted by: Mikey914 Aug 17 2016, 03:53 PM

They are still available just a few dollars more.

I didn't see these on your website, only the fiberglass panels. How much for the fiberboard panels for a '75?

Posted by: Mikey914 Aug 17 2016, 09:56 PM

We actually did the GB with the fiberglass panels even though they are more expensive. The new panels will be coming online later , but wanted to get these moving.

Mark, are these panels all put together ready to go and do they come with the map pocket and door glad handle on passenger side. I have your fiberglass panel kit but would go for one's already done so I would be interested in a set for a 73 in black with door clips and plugs, give me a total and will send paypal. Thanks John.

These panels are just the panels. They have the vinyl and pad on them. I fo have the fiberglass door pockets, but they are not included.
