914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Windshield trim alternatives????

I pulled the windshield from the 914 today, once I removed the metal trim ,the window came right out with only one tap from the inside of the car with my fist.....

the blackened out trim is still nice, but I was thinking of doing something different...

I'm not too sure if I like the look of the rubber gasket that some use from a Honda CRX or something like that, what other alternatives are there?

Something about a Ford Windstar or Chevy Astrovan comes to mind... search the Pelican threads...

There are lots of standard windshield trims. On my 1971, after re-installation with butyl tape, the windshield place put in a trim strip in the gap. Because they replaced the chrome, they used one with a thin chrome line. Looked very good.

Mike,

Go to your local auto glass shop. Ask, and they'll give you a variety of 1-2" snippets of samples to see how you like them on your car. There's quite a variety of widths out there.

I just about lost my trim on the interstate today. PO put in new windshield. What holds the trim on. A glue or putty of some kind? Need help.

Thanks for the info, you guys. I am going to try to buy the 20' of the trim that was sold to Jim -- the T-107BFL. I like the black metal trim as it matches the rest of the car so well, but my sense is that the rubber trim won't chip and will match the blacked out look well enough.

I have had problems keeping the trim in the bottom of the windshield corners after about 2 months worth of sittin in the sun (driving around). It looks great and I highly recommend it.. but making those sharp turns in the corners of the windshield (bottom corners) is a real pain without wrinkles.

Show us pics of it installed on a car.. Mike has seen this on my tube car and just didnt recall seeing it.
