Joe Buckle and I are out working, just leaving the first job in North Long Beach heading to the second store to install the next router. We are sitting in his Tahoe at the exit of an alley waiting for the traffic to clear so we can go, when I see this older 77 to 80 Dodge van come across the interesection and the trailer full of roofing shingles comes detached from the van and heads down the road all by itself. In my mind I am thinking "Back up, back up!" but by the time it actually comes out of my mouth to tell Joe, he has about 2 seconds to react, needless to say, this trailer with about 2000 pounds of roofing shingles strikes the front of the Tahoe and turns the big vehicle to the side effectively shifting the entire front clip on Joe's Tahoe. Unfu#$ing believable. The guy doesnt speak very good english, of course he has no insurance, the chains that are supposed to be attached to the vehicle are wound inside and through a ring on the trailer, not the van and there are no working tail lights on the trailer either. I'm sorry but in my opinion, the guy should have been deported on the spot since Joe's uninsured motorist will have to cover it anyway. People like that should not even be on the road. If the trailer would have veered any sooner, all the pedestrians at the bus stop would have been plowed over by this trailer. But of course, nobody was even thinking about that. Just another day in Southern California.
How was your day?
Bet he had no license and the cops wouldn't even show up?
Joe OK?
Hey im a firefighter and stupid people like that make sure im always going to have a job. You wouldn,t believe some of hte stupid shit I,ve seen people do pulling trailers.
Hope everyone is ok.
That just sucks.
Yeah, Joe is fine, I called the cops and took a few pics with my cell phone of the plate and the trailer in case they didnt show up. The owners of Supermex, the people we were doing the job for, came down with his camera and took a few pictures too. What a day.
Damn that sucks! We had traffic come to a grinding halt this morning on I-95 around 5:45 because somebody was HANGING from an overpass I gues that was his final
to Richmond. Police say it "may" be a suicide
Deport him hell.....SHOOT HIM
That f#@king SUCKS!!!!! What the hell is it with people? I even drive in Istanbul and at least they slow down for blind intersections. I hope Joe or you don't feel the effects tomorrow. Find out who he was working for (Includes all clients) and go after them. Piss!!! Pisss!!! Fuc(!!!
Allan
Did you keep the shingles?
Seriously, its good to year you guys are okay. Good thing they didnt hit a 914, or this would be a different thread
I'm fine. already took the truck to the dealer. guy gave it a once over and said it wouldn't be that big a deal to get it right again. He will wait to hear from my adjuster and get back to me.
This is the same guy that "totaled" my Suburban after it was stolen when it was on the fence with repairs, so, i'm not too worried.
I'm just glad the trailer didn't hit any pedestrians. There were about 15 people waiting for a bus about 20 feet BEFORE the trailer hit me.
The SuperMex owner called LBPD and they showed up in about 15 minutes. Got my police report and they were still writing the guy his tickets for unsafe trailer and no insurance.
It's just a truck. Besides, now i can guilt Scott into helping me get the V-8 welded to
Hmmm...."Blood from a Turnip" comes to mind
Glad no one was hurt!
Glad to hear you two are alright, and the pedestrians.
Agreed with Ron... Illegal alien driving with no insurance or license... SHOOT THEM ON THE SPOT

The guy had a license, but no insurance, as I recall, it's not legal to drive without insurance? Last I heard, your vehicle would be impounded on the spot. This guy drove it home with a ticket? I bet if it was me, I would be in jail and the car would have been impounded. They call it profiling and dont arrest minorities. I dont want to get started on that, I gots work to do. Sanding, sanding, sanding.
I have to agree that it was a good thing you were in your truck and not in your '14. It definitely makes for less soreness.
At my office today, I was sitting in the controllers office with my boss going over our month end accrual when we heard a solid crunch outside so we got up to look and we see a semi had T-boned a convertible Saab. The guy in the Saab was sitting in his passenger seat (knocked to that side, I'm sure). I guess his Saab wasn't as fast as he thought it was.
Last October I came to a quick stop in traffic on a local freeway and got rear ended at almost full speed by a driver without a license (from any state much less California) OR insurance; luckily only minor muscle aches on my part but $12K damage to my M3, both front and rear. My UM insurance picked up everything, including the deductible. The driver was cited, and according to the CHP, was reported to the local district attorney. I have no idea what became of the "case". Anyone who drives in California without uninsured motorist coverage is really hanging his/her ass out!

Glad you guys are ok. That sucks, but it could be alot worse....
Lyressa, My mom was in an accident when she was driving an older Saab, and the way it was built saved her life.

that sucks.... see you tomorrow at supermex.... ![]() ![]() |
Well, if it happens, tomorrow will be our last Supermex meet. We will be switching to a different place where there is no conflicts of interest with any of the members. A suggestion to go to a new Hooters that is opening soon would be a good place, Zubies Chicken Coop was also suggested. We will vote on it tomorrow night.
Glad to hear you and Joe are alright and that no one was injured!
And I agree with Ron too....SHOOT 'EM!
And I bet you're right , Scott, you or Joe would have gone to jail with no insurance!!!!!
Lisa
Glad to hear you guys are ok.
My very first brand new car was totalled by a drunk drivin' no insurance totin' illegal alien. I was stopped at a light and he plowed me from behind going about 40 mph, sending my car spinning across the intersection. To make a long story short, he tried to run and hide, but me and some bystanders were able to find him. He started throwin' punches, too, so he got a good thumpin' from my hockey stick and some other guys' flashlights. Then this big guy got in there and just sat on him until the cops came. They guy was so drunk he didn't even feel any of it.
Sitting at home after a bachelor dinner, phone rings and the wife says "I have some bad news. I was rearended in the truck (Mazda) and pushed clear across the intersection by a larger truck". Amazingly the guy had insurance and a driver's license (this is California?). Damage looks about the price of a new bumper but I'll bet it is in the thousands. Insurance companies (both) very accomadating at this point but mine wants me to pay the 200 deductible which they will "try" to get from the hitter. Go figure!
I think I would find another insurance company, It obviously wasnt her fault and the deductable should be waived and paid by the other party at fault.
Glad to hear you are both are ok.
Glad ya'll are not hurt. I got too many of these stories to tell, unfortunately. I have never caused an accident. Last year, though, I had two of my vehicles totaled. One of them, my motorcycle, for the fourth time I hate stupid people....
Oh, but my insurance, USAA, rocks They take good care of me. Farmers was the absolute worst to deal with as a victim of their client, in my personal experience
I'm glad that Joe and Scott are both uninjured! Also glad the the pedestrians did not get hurt and that Joe's truck is fixable.
Welcome to Kawifornia!
My friend got t-boned on the passenger side of her F250 by an Ice Cream Truck that was backing out of a driveway. And then he took off! He hit her so hard that it cost over $800 damage. He came back and started yelling at her for bad driving. The cop that showed up said there was nothing he could do.
Later, she found out that the insurance information she got from the Ice Cream Truck drive was in Bankruptsy and no longer in business.
It took here almost two years of taking this guy to court to get him to pay her $20 a month until he's paid off.
He calls her sometimes and tries to convince her to let him stop paying.
And to think that these are the trucks that roam around your neighborhood with "Slow" and "Watch for Children"
Wow, you guys are starting to scare me. I'm not sure if I want to drive anywhere in California. All this no insurance talk has me worried. I can only imagine the headache if I was to get into and accident down there, being from Canada.
Does your insurance cover travel outside Canada?
If so, make sure you know the exact details of your policy, becasue anything can happen anywere!
Look forward to meeting you at the WCC!!
I'm sure that my insurance does cover out side of Canada, but I bet it would still be a major hassle to get everything sorted out. Dealing with insurance on a straight forward accident is bad enough. Plus, the only insurance place in Saskatchewan is government owned and operated, so there's lots of red tape and assorted crap to deal with. Socialism at it's best!
