914World.com _ 914World Garage _ HELP! I need a tach

Posted by: Racing916 Apr 12 2005, 01:18 PM

Hello everyone,

I know I should probably post this on the wanted classified's add but I really am looking for a 911 tach that works, BAD. I stress "works", because I bought one on ebay, it looks great but it is crap. I took it apart and can not find anything wrong. A 911 tach is the last thing i need to complete my 6 conversion. I am looking for a tach from and early 911 up to 1973. My motor is a 1971 2.2L T motor. Let me know if you all can help thanks.

Also here is a picture because I know posts are not fun with out a least one pic

Thanks
Steve

Are you using an electronic ignition? Something other than standard points? These make a difference. I spent $80.00 & sent mine to North Hollywood Speedo & had it reworked for the elec ignition in the Bus. Worth every penny. smile.gif

I also have one out of a 70 or 71 911. 8K tach, silver button style. I could plug it into my six and make sure it works. Been sitting around a while. wink.gif

Early tachs use an expensive and difficult to find sender (well, not really a sender, but I'm foggy this morning, and I can't think of the name) in the engine compartment. I'd use a later one. The Cap'n

idea.gif Huh? I have always just hooked them up to the points for the signal. I have a 911 relay panel for the engine/tach/CD box ect. Should I be pulling something else off of it? confused24.gif
