914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Speakers and subwoofers!

So finally getting around to upgrading the stereo on my '74 914

We did replace the factory deck with a CD / aux input deck a while ago.

Looking at replacing the speakers.... I've found many threads on what works for those.

But lots of people mention building a box for the passenger footrest to house a subwoofer. I can't find any pics of that..... built but not installed, or installed!

I have a center console and was thinking of just getting a 6" tube subwoofer and putting it in there, ideas on that?

Great feedback. Thanks all.

Guess I need to spend some time and see what to do about speakers. I know there are holes in the firewall for some speakers, and wires are run. But no speakers are there (it's been covered up). Suppose I should ask my Dad why he did that.

So between two front speakers, putting the two in the back again, and a floorboard sub..... that'll keep me thumping while I drive down the highway!

Here is my solution for a subwoofer. I took an 8" (speaker diameter) Bazooka and cut it down to about half its original length. The bass is absolutely awesome for its size and still plenty of room in the footwell for the wife's feet. Easy install, because the subamp is inside the Bazooka.

trying to do this from my phone.... I don't expect the links to work. Wish this forum was on Tapatalk!

Because of this link....

https://porsche914e.blogspot.com/2009/10/speakers.html?m

I'm thinking of adding these to the speakers in the kick panels...

https://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosgatte-T1462-Coaxial-Speakers/dp/B002G9DO8S

And then one of these either behind the Passenger seat or at the passenger seat footrest...

Pyle PLBASS2.8 8-Inch Super-Slim Active Amplified Subwoofer System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BMRE0RE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eJ5SybDTNZ40Z

But then I'm also looking at just this in the passenger seat footrest....

PYLE Street Blaster PBMSPG100 Rugged & Portable Bluetooth Wireless BoomBox https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IJSAYJW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZJ5Syb3V4RFFJ

I do like the 914 Rubber speaker mounts but they are on backorder. I also really like the custom sub mounts but I don't know squat about car stereos so not sure I would want to mess with an amp and all that.

So........... since I'm indecisive I'll just go ahead and replace the carburetor and figure this out later.

HerdofCrickets - Yes, that is a removable change holder that reveals a cup holder. I am a coffee freak which means a cup holder is a MUST HAVE!

Ok so you guys won. I took the 'right' way out instead of the lazy man's way and I ordered the subwoofer panel from 914Rubber and new speaker mounts from 914Rubber.
