friend of mine just got one with a sidecar... according to him, (he's a perfectionist like me) he had to basically rebuild it once it was delivered. Quality was a huge problem. Were talking very old design here. Anyhow, he does not have it running yet, but it looks neat.
Ferg.
I saw a few of these when I was in Russia. Mostly the Wolf choppered out. I thought that they were neat, but with the aformentioned quality control issues, why not just get a BMW R bike? They are proven, bullet proof, and parts will likely be more available.
The Urals are still cool, though.
I used to see these when I was living in Turkey. Usually they were broke. The hot ticket at the time if you had to have an eastern european bike was CZ....
hmmm... thanks for the interesting feedback. my buddy is thinking of retiring out here to the PNW, so he is visiting all weekend with his wife. i will tell him about the quality issues.
Dr. Evil, are you talking about an older BMW R or do they still make 'em?
I was reffering to the older ones. i had a 75 R75/6 that I loved but was too nice to keep/ride. They still make the R bikes, though. The Highway Patrol down here all ride R1100s. I have ridden one and they are very nice.

my friend tells me that the quality has improved, and that they now come with a full two year warranty. there is no way i am going to geta bike; not with a station wagon, a trooper, and a 914 occupying the garage! these urals look cool, though.
so, MSG, have you posted pics of your car? tell us more! what are you doing up in b-ham?
