Fixed 'em for ya Trekkor. My fault.

Posted by: Joseph Mills May 28 2005, 08:54 PM

Mark,

I'm running windows media player on my Mac. It will play a segment of Trekkor's video and then freeze and start rebuffering. Sometimes the video will commence playing again and sometimes not.

Is there something I could change in my "preferences" that might fix this?

I'm on a DSL line/Safari browser. I also have internet explorer.

Any suggestions?

Posted by: McMark May 28 2005, 09:01 PM

Joseph,

Go to the windows media player preferences and set it to buffer 60 seconds of video or something like that. That should work.

Can you save the file and then watch?

What is it about video that makes everything look so much slower? Watching that orange car in person it looked wickedly fast on video it looked like he was out for a Sunday drive.

Posted by: mskala May 28 2005, 09:28 PM

Man your car stays flatter than mine that's for sure.

Yeah, you could to that. Hold down the Ctrl key and click the link and save the file to the HD. Then watch it.

I tried the 60 buffer command without any success.

However downloading them works okay. Still a bit "jumpy". These are cool, but is there some way we can we make higher quality files available for downloading? I don't mind taking 10-15 minutes to download.

Great fun watching the videos! All of you looked real good. Sounds like the 4's were in 3rd gear on the sweeper.

I'm stoked for tomorrow's AX in my locale! w00t.gif

What model Mac do you have? My 500 Mhz G3 iBook is jumpy as well. It just can't decode fast enough.

Posted by: Joseph Mills May 28 2005, 10:38 PM

I have an old (4 yrs) Mac G3 powerbook, a Dual 1ghz G4, and an iMac G4 700mhz.

I'm using the iMac. It processes and runs my own hi-res videos with no problem at all. I've just started delving into digital video and know little about it at this point. Right now I'm learning to edit what I shoot. Soon I will be ready to post some of them.

To me, it appears to be the nature of lower-res files for them to be twitchy, etc.

Nice vids, Thanks for sharing.

Trekkor,
Great vids...agree about how they sloooow everything down vs being there (or in car). Nathan, the German judge gave you 9.7 style points on the spin smilie_pokal.gif

Glad you all liked them.
Hopefully it will motivate some of you to come out anf run your car with us.

And...These files are compressed to only about 1/4 of their original size. smash.gif

All that pretty concrete and youz guys cover it with a sea of cones. I don't normaly critize AX layouts, but that looks horrible.

Posted by: trekkor May 29 2005, 11:00 PM

we were just glad they "lined" the course.
Someone said, " chalk line this course and you'll have the fastest course ever. If they don't, you'll have the most DNF's ever"

i don't like the layouts that are "boxed" and over coned.

Just make it like a mini road course, please.

it might look like that on the video, but it was easy to drive ...
no problems with getting lost.

however, they did have quite a few *fake* apex cones. you had to remember (from walking the course) which apex-cones where set there to throw you off ...

I thought the same thing when I first saw the course, but it was pretty easy to navigate. I dont think we had a single driver who got lost.

The lines helped, but the course was intuitive once you ran it at speed.

How clever.
Will "fake" gates be next?

I was up at Bremerton Saturday. That course is twice as long with a third of the cones.

Ours have a tenth the cones of that thing. Our sweepers have an entrance & exit gate with maybe 2-3 cones with pointers, open to the outside....pick a line.

The SCCA had a lousy one on last Saturday......folks out wandering around wondering WTF. They cleaned it up the next day.

That course looks like it was laid out by a drill sargent. laugh.gif

Posted by: trekkor May 29 2005, 11:30 PM

I helped set-up the course and found myself biting my tongue...

I thought a lot of cones were set in such a way that they could draw you away from the line.

if you didn't walk the course, you were in trouble.
