One of the things I admire about the 914 is that every piece seems to serve a purpose.
One if the things troubling me on my 2.0 was the VW smell in the cabin. I knew exhast and exchangers are good but it was still there.
Turns out that while the rubber seals around the engine tins are all new, a section on drivers side kept popping off. I thus glued it with some 3M weather strip adhesive. Nice long drive today, nothing but fresh air.
That is interesting. The air that passes through the heat exchangers on the way to the cabin begins at the engine cooling fan and shroud. I thought that this would always result in some odor from the engine compartment being passed on to the cabin. I was aware of a faint mechanical/oil odor and blamed my dual carbs. Perhaps I need to replace the engine tin to body seals.
