I’ve got an intermittent Hot starting issue, not the starter itself, on the new to me 1975. The starter turns over, it’s got fuel so it appears I have a spark issue. I don’t really have any history on the car and noticed that the coil that’s on it is pretty old but also has leads coming off it that are not ignition-based.
That is obviously something that needs to get tracked down because as of right now I don’t know where those are going, but I thought hanging any wiring off the coil was kind of a bad idea, no?
I agree with you. I would trace those wires to what the heck they are powering.
One of the wires is for the RPM meter
I think it is the purple one
I’ve seen several fuel pumps powered via the switched 12v on the coil
Some coils will go through a ballast resister before they get to the dizzy, if you see a lead going to a big ceramic block that's what that is. That is usually for aftermarket distributors though.
