914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Cool mods... not sure about it though

Posted by: ninefourteener Aug 6 2003, 09:41 AM

I was just checking this out. Not really sure if I like it yet. Someone forked out a lot of cash and time to do it though...... pretty interesting looking. A sloped bnack windshield..... a convertible soft top, and ferarri scoops on the side... interesting.

Just thought I'd share:

Hmm, I like the side scoops starting from the handles, works on this car, but the 356ish hood handle was a bad idea. Needs a hard top boot with t-bird humps and intergrated roll bar hoops mueba.gif
plus wheres the heating controls, seems like you would want heat ohmy.gif

Wow.. I never caught the 356 handle.

I agree.. bad idea

Plus, how hot would that thing run, I can barley make out a 356 style grill added aft of the top boot, but does not seem sufficient for a six...
would the loss of the targa bar affect the stiffness of the chasis, I assume it would.

You won't need a heater with that thing, it's gotta run way effin hot. So, your backside is prolly always warm!
Handle doesn't work.
Side scoops are best attempt at side scoops I've seen.
Can't make out the grill on the back, but don't see how it could look good.

Without that stuff, it looks really nice, best looking convertible I've seen out of a 914.

Did you notice that the windshield is making a sharper angle (check the vent windows)
The front fenders (indicators) are also sloped back more

cheers,

Jeroen

I like the side vents too. Here's a couple pics of a car with similar vent's.

I know this purple car.
It's a fast MoFo.
The PO / builder / driver is my mechanic,
Las Vegas Porsche guru Carl Young.

A big question would be what's it look like with the top up? The cut down seats don't look very comfortable.

That is a body kit that used to be heavily advertised in the old "VW and Porsche" magazine that became European Car. As I recall they also offered a slope nose version as well (not like the Chalon, they just removed the turn signal humps).

The pink car is now yellow and in Colorado. I have seen it at many DE events.

Ferg, wasn't it there the day we were both out there at Second Creek? I know Brant knows him well.

I don't remember seeing that car in yellow, but your right brant prolly knows the owner, he know everyone...

Yep. Same car.
Not pink. Bright purple. Just a bad photo.

The original 3.0 motor went someplace else.
I think the Colo. owner has a 2.2 in it now.

I love that green!
and the ghost stripes are oh so sweet!

The black car is a Wilco Enginerring kit . It was ac over car on European cars mag, it was white and had the 75-76 bumpers. The top looks very much like a Speedster top. One sold at auction in Palm Springs a few years ago, red witha four cyl for around $9500, ended up in Portland Oregon witha price of $11,500. I have flier here somewhere that gives all the info, one of the best convertible 914 kits I have ever seen and I would buy that car, Black one, since it is a six, I agree the hood handle doesn't do it for me.

I'm not totally decided on the color, because the nose/tail haven't been sorted out yet.. I want it to look more 356y. aetna blue looks really good, so does that dove grey.. heh.. bright color get's Fuchs, 356 color gets steels.

I need to make 10, I like something about every one I come up with.

I am pretty excited that the car is in pieces, I have been collecting parts for this project since like 1987..
