914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Selling a 914-6...what's the value?

Posted by: Scott Carlberg Aug 9 2003, 12:20 AM

Just rec'd my Excellence mag today.
In the 'technical notes' section, some guy asks Bruce Anderson
(who answers this section for the mag) the following:

> I'd like to sell my 914-6, as it just sits in the garage collecting dust
these days. fighting19.gif
I'm afraid to drive my 914 because some idiot might hit & total this great Porsche
obliterating my investment. I've spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours tending
to this car.
Perhaps this echoes the sentiment of many other Porsche classic car owners, and
I think the 914-6 has achieved classic status. I'm writing to see if you can give me
an idea as to the value of my car. I love the '6', but I think it's time to let it go,
to someone who can let it sing like Dr Porsche intended it to! <

Answer:
While I'm not sure that the 914-6 has achieved classic status, other than it's age,
it is one of the few Porsches that's worth more today than when it was new.
So it must be something special. agree.gif
Nice example are selling for more than THREE times what they sold new for.

I estimate that the 914-6 is worth between a low of $12,250 and $13,900 for a
good car. An excellent example should bring $18,650. I have seen some owners
advertising their cars for over $20,000, but I don't know if they ever got it.

Of course there are always those "beyond excellent" cars out there, which usually
sell for whatever price is agreed upon behind closed doors. (end)

Opinions & Thoughts? Every car is, of course, going to be different, but is that
about inline to what you guys see out there? Those of you looking for Sixes!

Don't know if it's the same guy or not, but there's a

There's something to be said about a true box stock survivor car
as it left the factory, but hopefuly tastefully done modifications that
the factory would have done if the series had more production years
ie.more powerful motor, sideshift trans, steel flares, would not detract
from the value of these rare cars. my car is worth 20k to me and I am not afraid
to drive it like it is meant to be driven. Even with the non original modifications
I consider my car a true survivor
