What can you tell me about this car?
Was the conversion done the right way?
Is it more than just an auto-x monster?

The car you mention is owned by a PCA-GGR owner who ended up moving to hawaii. He's got the car up for sale for ~$20K...Brad knows the car and I've seen it up close at both auto-x's and TT's. The car is very fast and seems to be sorted. It has a 3.6 993 in it and a 915 box.

I believe Brad mentioned that the conversion was done right, but to clean up the car an make it sweet, you would need to pull everything out and go through it. But if you want to have a fast car out of the box, this thing seems to be a great deal given how much I have spent on my car laugh.gif

Does the targa top fit on that car? The roll bar looks pretty high. In our POC events we have to run with the top on.

I've seen the top locked on the car. In TT's they run it with the top on. The car hauls ass on the tracks...and I think when it was running auto-x's it recorded several TTOD's. (That's hearsay, I wasn't running when it was being auto-x'd....) but I can believe it.

I've watched it secure many TTOD and even up close it looks good. Very fast.

Tobias Olney is the owner. He was running LM class and it was either him or Larry Sharp, in his 914, that typically won TTOD.

Nice thing about the car is that ithe engine is mostly stock, but has gobs of HP and Torque.

Yup, that's Tobias' car. It's an original Six, and had a warmed-over carb'ed 3.3L motor in it when he bought it. Nobody could get the carbs working correctly, and the motor burned itself up in short order. So he threw a whole lotta $$ at it and had a stock Vario-Ram equipped 993 3.6L motor installed. ("A whole lot" means more than he's asking for the whole car now.) I think Bauer in Oakland did the installation.

That thing is wicked fast! He let me take a fun-run in it once, when he only had 215s under it. Not nearly enough tire... I'm the only one I know of to ever start an autoX run backwards!!

That looks like a helluva car for the price!

If only I had some dough laying around!

drew,

my main hoop is high like that as well and the top fits perfect. The panel actually sits on top of the targa bar which is why the hoop looks so high when the panel is removed.

If the car ever does roll you will be glad the fabricator knew what he was doing.
