your fault? or theirs?
hope your OK
Man, that sucks!
Hope you're ok though.
YIKES!!!!
He back into you?
I'm fine. Was other parties fault. Was behind him at stop sign and he decided to back up.
He was cool about it and admited fault. Gave me all of his personal and insurance info without problem.
Now, try to tell the insurance company that.

bummer, sorry too see that . you can make money on this one when the insurance adj starts the parts tally. genuine p parts only. wait till he/she prices out a new bumper and hood. the boys down south should be able to set you up with everything you need
k
Glad you are ok, but you still need to get checked out. That same thing happend to my wife in a ferry lane. She got her car fixed (a beater SAAB). She saw it coming honked her horn, when impact came, she tensed up and tore a muscle in her neck!
I'm sorry Toast. But it does look like a easier fix
Yea, that's what I was thinking too.
But, I wonder if when they find out how much parts are if they wont just want to "total" it and just give me blue book value.

Your SoCal boys will have that fixed in no time.
Man that sucks Toasted one. Glad your ok, hope the repair goes smooth.
not sure how it works in CA, but in CO the at fault has to pay for your rental car, and needs to be a comparable model? Maybe you can get a solstice or mustang vert while it's being repaired.
Ferg
That sucks, Toast. Looks like you should come out ok....just a hassle.
I dont think I have the reciept for the paint on the 914. It was owned by someone else at the time I had Los Pancho do it.
dinomium,
My neck is still thrashed from the last accident 3 years ago. I dont think this one did any more damage. But.........I may be able to start seeing the chiropractor again if his insurance will pay for it.
Question:
I have already contacted my insurance company about it.
Should I contact his insurance company also?
I think your insurance company will contact his insurance company. Glad your ok, bummer on the car. Hoping it will be as good as new for the next RRC.
if it goes this far, take the total settlement less the "how much will you give me and let me keep the car? because i'm losing alot of money!!!". i was about $700 short of a "total" when the 73' was stolen (according to the adj's value of the car). get everything in order, the recent excellence pricing guide, reciepts, can anybody down there give you a appraisal? predate it for right after the paint job... spiritedtriebor (jim) got lowballed on the first adj valuation when his 75' was totaled. he held his ground and did pretty well. but...i don't live in california, perhaps things work differently down there.
k
Easy fix on the car, just glad you're OK. Let the insurance company do it. These cars are invisible to high profile vehicles. I'm thinking about getting one of those dune buggy flags
Call me, nitwit.

ah..the horn doesn't work NOW. it worked PRIOR to the incident . he must not have heard you when you honked to alert him.
k
toast, what yellow is that? It's a beeyoooteeful color.
Aw geez, that sucks!
Still, it doesn't look like too bad. I had a fair bit of experience in CA with getting insurance companies to pay off after their clients hitting my "invisible" 914... DD, remember?
Anyway, the real trick is being super patient, and willing to tough it out. They will very likely want to total the car at first. You say "no". They cannot total the car without your permission, and their case file stays open so long as you don't accept what they're offering. And the longer the file is open, the more pressure on them there is to close it.
I had the fortune of having a secondary vehicle, so I wasn't stranded at the time. Pick the shop it goes to, make sure it's one you trust, as the car may be there a while if the insurance company drags their heels...
BTDT....
The worst one was when I was 5 days from moving back here to CO, I was saying goodbye to a friend at work, and someone came inside to say "does someone here own a grey porsche?". I said "yeah, do you need me to move it?". He said "No... I already did....". I have to say, when I got outside to see the damage, I cracked up. I had JUST gotten the car back from the shop after someone -else- had smacked the car in a parking lot a month before.
From the pictures, it looks quite repairable. Definitely doccument as much as you can on the cars value, and any info you can gather on the recent paint job would be key...
Good luck!
-Josh2
Aw Toast, that sucks. Glad you are ok tho.
It's still driveable and I have two other vehicles.
So I dont think his insurance would be willing to give me a rental.

I hope you filed an accident report or called the police to the scene to file a report. Reason? Same thing happened to my wife; they shared information, but the person who back into my wife changed story when she call their insurance company. Our insurance company had to pay for the repairs. Good luck.

I was just going to PM you about that. We just need to change the color from Black to Yellow. |

Millenium Yellow from a C5 corvette? |
Don't fret the car, it can be fixed.
Here's my nephews car when a similar thing happened. I managed to pull everything out with a porta-power and a days worth of hamer and dolly work. Didn't even touch the paint and you can't tell at all from 5'. The plan is to replace hood and re-shoot someday, but for now it brought it back to a driver and didn't even cost anything other than a days time.
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=11974&st=0
Good luck!
I really like it. My dad had a 2001 Corvette that was Millenium yellow, so that's probably why. I think that may just be the color that bluecar gets painted when it's ready.
Yeaaaa!
I actually took it down there without the door pannels and asked them to try to match it up the best they did.
And they did a pretty damn good job too!
Bummer, I'm sure it will look good again. Glad to hear that you're ok.
Sorry about the car Melba. Call Howard and get some good advice and DO NOT ever tell anyone the horn didn't work. He obviously just didn't hear it. It looks like it can still be fixed and can be good as new in time for WCC.
Cheers, Elliot
Hood................. yes
bumper..............no
bumper cap........no
time....................no
Well, since this is number two that I have built that got wiped by "others"...I give up...no more teeners....I'm gonna buy a Mack Truck and start wiping out someone else.
Didn't the City water district help you wipe out the Zamezi by putting water all over the road?
I agree with mack914....
Sorry girl. But you're OK and the car isn't that bad. It's such a pretty yellow 914 too.
I am so sorry... the hits just keep on coming..
Glad you are ok, maybe I shouldn't call you anymore.

Glad you are ok, crinkled metal can be fixed, and if it a total, another car is around the corner.
bummer, glad you are OK!! hope it works out for the best!!
Wow, really sorry to hear and see that Toast, if there's anything I can do to help, let me know. I think your idea to have you neck checked is a good one.
Take Care, Don
Sorry about your car toasty
If you need hands or help let me know.
Sorry to see that happen to you! That car looks like a real nice one. Why couldn't he have backed into a Humvee or an Escalade? Good luck getting it straight again. It looks to be a pretty easy fix. At least it all happened at a slow speed...otherwise I'd hate to open my eyes and see what might have been. I have a garage full of 914 parts, including a nice hood. Let me know if I can help?
Best of luck,
Bill
Ms. Toast,
Sorry to hear 'bout your baby.
Im very glad that your OK.
If anyone can help with the insurance issues, the people here can.
i took the advice of the gang and got stated value full coverage on mine. my insurance lady wanted to see pics of Bebe so i sent her the URL of my progress thread.
Hang in there!
Remember that, except for urned toast, it's always darkest just before dawn. Things are going to change soon.
But for future reference, stop breaking mirrors!
Sorry to hear; glad you are ok ! Can't tell you how close I come to getting whacked on a regular basis. Installed those ear splitting air horns for possible back-in and call-phone lane changes.
Jim
Thanks guys for all of your support and concern!
No, a police report was not filed. I have had very bad experiences with the Riverside police dept about them taking my info, and then turning what I told them around and blaming me for the accident. I did not want them involved at all!
Things went real smoothly between the other party and I. For a change, I actually feel that things will turn out just fine with this one.
And if it comes down to the point that he denys fault and I get nothing, well, then I will just say (fill in your own word here) it and part out what I got and say "Hey, I got to own and drive a 914!" (That is of course until the addicition takes over and I end up getting another one. )
Now comes the hard decision......do I drive the wrecked 914 or the wrecked truck as my daily driver.

Ouch. That sucks Toast. Sorry to hear about your teener.
I am glad you are OK and the car is not worse.
Don't worry. Those SoCal boys can fix you up in no time.
What is it about Cali? I counted up 8 times that my vehicles, and at times my person, came incontact with other peoples via their fault when I lived there. As for the cops, they wouldn't come out in SD unless someone was injured.
Sorry about your car, Hun. Don't give up. This same thing happend to Jonnyx and he had his fixed no prob. I am deffinetly putting air horns into my car. I can't just fix it out here.
First off....ALWAYS figure that the Insurance company is going to try and fuck you.....
Start collecting high dollar ads for every 914 you see for your year.....get a PCA evaluation...if not a member find someone who is and get it....check out Bruce Anderson's Excellence Magazine evaluations.....FIND a receipt from a friendly paint shop.....
Talk to the adjuster...only go to ONE shop of YOUR choice and get an estimate...you DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO ANY OTHER SHOP.
If they want to total it, do it with YOUR price, with a written buy back guarantee WITHOUT a salvage title.....if they don't tell them to Fuck Off and that your are going to call the State Insurance Commissioner and tell them that they were trying to screw a girl....
Oh yeah....wear that pushup bra you have....it won't help...but I wanna see pics of that....
Gud luk....
Yeah! What Z said! (except the pushup bra part - don't need to see that)
Sorry about your car, Melba... I'll send positive brainwaves in your direction in hopes they'll hit the insurance people upside the head and you'll get this resolved to your advantage. If they won't cooperate, you have many friends who may be persuaded to them for you. (and if the MAN is reading this, I'm not "suggesting" anything, just throwing out random unsuggestive thoughts)
I agree with "Z" and Sharon. Accept about the Adjuster's intensions part, or the threats of legal action, or the gun part!, save that for later, and the fashion undergarment part, We wouldn't edit your photo but.... on second thought.... if you could talk my wife into wearing.... never mind!

Owwwaa. Thanks for the picture John!
UPDATE.
Spoke with the insurance company. Apparently they currently do not have an offer yet because the "adjuster has not been able to find parts."
Well, I did try to talk to her about the parts the whole 3 minutes that she was there, but she just rolled her eyes at me. Acording to her, he job was to just take pictures and submit them.
I thought about calling the adjuster and telling her where she could find the parts (all except for the chrome bumper), but haven't decided wether to do that yet or not.
The insurance company did offer me a rental car. And the rental car angency has already contacted me. So I have that available if I want. Would probably be much better on gas than my truck.
Ok, that's all for now.
Any chance you can convince them my beater 914 is the one involved? I mean... for what they'll probably payout... I could make it worth your while if they do the repairs to that
I agree with * I wanna see the pictures too
email the "Money Shot" suppllied by john to her and a big sappy I miss my car letter followed by I would like to get this settled asap I will accept X $$$$ amount .
teary eye smily guy
Brando youll have lottsa money when you sell that nice 3.0
I had someone back into mine, too. It can be fixed. Your accident looks like it did not move the light buckets as much as mine were moved, especially on the driver side (see attached pic). My lines where the fenders meet the trunk were still straight as yours look like they may be as well, so most frame damage is the front panel and maybe a bit on light buckets being pulled in/down. Have a good metal man do the work-- there is a lot that has to line up at the nose of our cars and it takes an artisan to do it right. The driver had AAA and they treated me fairly.
Good luck with your repairs, John

This all looks so familiar. Suzi before her free paint job. Needed frame pulled and doors realigned

Thanks Johnny.
Howie,
Did they paint over the duct tape too?
Sorry to see that damage
Are you feeling any pain from the accident? It's been a few days now.
Any updates or plans?
If "they", total and settle, just make sure it's enough to cover good used parts and the paint to make it look right again.
Hope you can turn this around.
KT
Thanks trekkor. I'm doing fine physcially.
Insurance Co. wont return my calls. So she is still sitting, hurting, with 1/2 tank of gas that she want to burn.

SETTLED!
After more than three weeks of dealing with the insurance company, I finally agreed on a settlement.
1)$500 more than the estimate for repair at the body shop of My choice.
2) Compensation for alternate transportation.
4) Clean title, NO SALVAGE!
Ok baby, were gonna get ya fixed!
Can't wait to drive her again! Funny thing I did yesterday was sit in the 914 and start her up and let idle while I sat in the seat pretending to drive.
Thanks everyone for all your help and support!
Yea
All is right with the world again

How about the 18th at Joe's house?
