He was cool about it and admited fault. Gave me all of his personal and insurance info without problem.

Now, try to tell the insurance company that. dry.gif

Glad you are ok, but you still need to get checked out. That same thing happend to my wife in a ferry lane. She got her car fixed (a beater SAAB). She saw it coming honked her horn, when impact came, she tensed up and tore a muscle in her neck!

sad.gif Man that sucks Toasted one. Glad your ok, hope the repair goes smooth.

not sure how it works in CA, but in CO the at fault has to pay for your rental car, and needs to be a comparable model? Maybe you can get a solstice or mustang vert while it's being repaired. wink.gif

I dont think I have the reciept for the paint on the 914. It was owned by someone else at the time I had Los Pancho do it. confused24.gif

dinomium,
My neck is still thrashed from the last accident 3 years ago. wacko.gif I dont think this one did any more damage. But.........I may be able to start seeing the chiropractor again if his insurance will pay for it. idea.gif

Question:

I have already contacted my insurance company about it.

Should I contact his insurance company also?

Posted by: StratPlayer Jan 25 2006, 11:09 AM

I think your insurance company will contact his insurance company. Glad your ok, bummer on the car. Hoping it will be as good as new for the next RRC.

Posted by: rhodyguy Jan 25 2006, 11:09 AM

if it goes this far, take the total settlement less the "how much will you give me and let me keep the car? because i'm losing alot of money!!!". i was about $700 short of a "total" when the 73' was stolen (according to the adj's value of the car). get everything in order, the recent excellence pricing guide, reciepts, can anybody down there give you a appraisal? predate it for right after the paint job... spiritedtriebor (jim) got lowballed on the first adj valuation when his 75' was totaled. he held his ground and did pretty well. but...i don't live in california, perhaps things work differently down there.

k

Posted by: Howard Jan 25 2006, 11:09 AM

Easy fix on the car, just glad you're OK. Let the insurance company do it. These cars are invisible to high profile vehicles. I'm thinking about getting one of those dune buggy flags biggrin.gif

Call me, nitwit.

toast, what yellow is that? It's a beeyoooteeful color.

Posted by: jhadler Jan 25 2006, 11:34 AM

Aw geez, that sucks!

Still, it doesn't look like too bad. I had a fair bit of experience in CA with getting insurance companies to pay off after their clients hitting my "invisible" 914... dry.gif DD, remember?

Anyway, the real trick is being super patient, and willing to tough it out. They will very likely want to total the car at first. You say "no". They cannot total the car without your permission, and their case file stays open so long as you don't accept what they're offering. And the longer the file is open, the more pressure on them there is to close it.

I had the fortune of having a secondary vehicle, so I wasn't stranded at the time. Pick the shop it goes to, make sure it's one you trust, as the car may be there a while if the insurance company drags their heels...

BTDT....

The worst one was when I was 5 days from moving back here to CO, I was saying goodbye to a friend at work, and someone came inside to say "does someone here own a grey porsche?". I said "yeah, do you need me to move it?". He said "No... I already did....". mad.gif I have to say, when I got outside to see the damage, I cracked up. I had JUST gotten the car back from the shop after someone -else- had smacked the car in a parking lot a month before. wacko.gif

From the pictures, it looks quite repairable. Definitely doccument as much as you can on the cars value, and any info you can gather on the recent paint job would be key...

Good luck!

Don't fret the car, it can be fixed.

Here's my nephews car when a similar thing happened. I managed to pull everything out with a porta-power and a days worth of hamer and dolly work. Didn't even touch the paint and you can't tell at all from 5'. The plan is to replace hood and re-shoot someday, but for now it brought it back to a driver and didn't even cost anything other than a days time.

Thanks guys for all of your support and concern!

No, a police report was not filed. I have had very bad experiences with the Riverside police dept about them taking my info, and then turning what I told them around and blaming me for the accident. I did not want them involved at all!

Things went real smoothly between the other party and I. For a change, I actually feel that things will turn out just fine with this one.

And if it comes down to the point that he denys fault and I get nothing, well, then I will just say (fill in your own word here) it and part out what I got and say "Hey, I got to own and drive a 914!" (That is of course until the addicition takes over and I end up getting another one. happy11.gif )

Sorry about your car, Hun. Don't give up. This same thing happend to Jonnyx and he had his fixed no prob. I am deffinetly putting air horns into my car. I can't just fix it out here.

Posted by: ! Jan 26 2006, 08:06 AM

First off....ALWAYS figure that the Insurance company is going to try and fuck you.....

Start collecting high dollar ads for every 914 you see for your year.....get a PCA evaluation...if not a member find someone who is and get it....check out Bruce Anderson's Excellence Magazine evaluations.....FIND a receipt from a friendly paint shop.....

Talk to the adjuster...only go to ONE shop of YOUR choice and get an estimate...you DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO ANY OTHER SHOP.

If they want to total it, do it with YOUR price, with a written buy back guarantee WITHOUT a salvage title.....if they don't tell them to Fuck Off and that your are going to call the State Insurance Commissioner and tell them that they were trying to screw a girl....

Posted by: ! Jan 26 2006, 08:07 AM

Gud luk.... mueba.gif

Posted by: SharonG Jan 26 2006, 08:42 AM

Sorry about your car, Melba... I'll send positive brainwaves in your direction in hopes they'll hit the insurance people upside the head and you'll get this resolved to your advantage. If they won't cooperate, you have many friends who may be persuaded to ar15.gif them for you. (and if the MAN is reading this, I'm not "suggesting" anything, just throwing out random unsuggestive thoughts)

Owwwaa. wub.gif Thanks for the picture John!

UPDATE.

Spoke with the insurance company. Apparently they currently do not have an offer yet because the "adjuster has not been able to find parts." happy11.gif
Well, I did try to talk to her about the parts the whole 3 minutes that she was there, but she just rolled her eyes at me. Acording to her, he job was to just take pictures and submit them. rolleyes.gif

I thought about calling the adjuster and telling her where she could find the parts (all except for the chrome bumper), but haven't decided wether to do that yet or not.

The insurance company did offer me a rental car. And the rental car angency has already contacted me. So I have that available if I want. Would probably be much better on gas than my truck.

Ok, that's all for now.

I had someone back into mine, too. It can be fixed. Your accident looks like it did not move the light buckets as much as mine were moved, especially on the driver side (see attached pic). My lines where the fenders meet the trunk were still straight as yours look like they may be as well, so most frame damage is the front panel and maybe a bit on light buckets being pulled in/down. Have a good metal man do the work-- there is a lot that has to line up at the nose of our cars and it takes an artisan to do it right. The driver had AAA and they treated me fairly.

Good luck with your repairs, John
