a guy from truckee(?). was working on a ladder running a drill. the ladder collapsed and he dropped his drill and it landed bit end up. he fell on a 18"x 1 1/8" auger bit. into his eye and between his skull and brain (yikes). 4 hours to remove the bit. lost his eye but no brain damage at all. he talked like it was no big deal.

The had something on discovery a week or so ago.... a guy get into a car accident, goes off road through some construction debris etc..
The paramedics arrive and the still concious guy asks "is there something stuck in my head?"
this guy had a piece of 1/2 in rebar stuck through the windshield and right into his forehead... At the emergeny room they opened a hole in the back of the guys skull, and pulled the rebar out.. He made a full recovery.
Amazing..
MY boss has a big f---ing hole in his head.
I'll have to ask him what happened.

I cut my hand years ago on the job, had to drive myself to the emergency room. I am sitting there waiting......cuz the lady said to take a seat and wait my turn. Tons of people waiting of course.......
A pool of blood in now under my chair cuz I am bleeding so bad (about 12 inches across). Finally a doctor comes out for the next person, a lady stands up and says "I'm next!"
Doctor looks at me (going white) and the pool of blood and says "He's next!" The lady was sooo pissed off and yells at the doctor about how people need to wait their turn.
I was patched up in no time at all.

We took a patient into emergency. While waiting for a ride back to the station this guy walks up to the triage nurse and says, "I need to see a Dr." she hands him a clipboard with papers on it and tells him to fill them out. He turns around and starts to walk away. There is a screwdriver handle sticking out of his back. He got to see the Dr. right away.
I just saw the story on the local news here. ACK! That was one big friggin drill bit. They interviewed him. He was cracking jokes.
Sheez. I think the guy should play the lottery. He is VERY lucky!.

Whoa, l-u-c-k-y! At least he wasn't drunk at the time. I seem to remember a bunch of dumb-@ss guys in Oregon.... This one even made the Weekly World News
[UPI, Portland, OR] Doctors at Portland's University Hospital said Wednesday an Oregon man shot through the skull by a hunting arrow is lucky to be alive, and will be released soon from the hospital. He was 25 and lost his right eye during an initiation into a men's rafting club, Mountain Men Anonymous, in Grants Pass, OR. A friend tried to shoot a beer can off his head, but the arrow entered his right eye. Doctors said had the arrow gone 1 millimeter to the left, a major blood vessel would have been cut and he would have died instantly. Neurosurgeon Dr. Johnny Delashaw at the University Hospital in Portland said the arrow went through 8 to 10 inches of brain, with the tip protruding at the rear of his skull, yet somehow managed to miss all major blood vessels. Delashaw also said that if the man had tried to pull the arrow out, he surely would have killed himself. The man admitted afterwards he and his friends had been drinking that afternoon. Said He, "I feel so dumb about this."
It went all the way through.

Oh, now that has got to hurt!!!
Thanks for the graphic Mark. Thats what I wanted!
oh man- thats sick!
Yep.. that's the real deal photo I saw on TV. It's hard to imagine. Talk about being scewed!
Did you see the picture of the drill? It is one of those right angle drills that kind of looks like a large angle grinder. The drill was on the floor with the bit sticking straight up when he landed on it. The bit looked to be about 18 inches long.
I love how the media writes a story to make it better..." a hunting arrow" makes it sound more dangerous.
If it was a "hunting arrow" instead of a regular field point arrow he wouldn't be alive.
Think this would have missed a major artery while spinning into his head @ 250 ft per sec? Not!!

Here is the text:
MAN DRILLS THROUGH SKULL
A Californian man is lucky to be alive after an accident on a construction site.
Ron Hunt was drilling into a wall when the ladder he was standing on slipped.
His head was impaled on the drill bit.
Surgeons had to literally unscrew the tool from his skull.
Mr Hunt lost the sight in his right eye but still considers himself to be a very lucky man.
