914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Thermostat

The engine [2.0 with carbs] is now working reasonably well after a lot of work. I installed a new thermostat from PP according to instructions. I've taken it for a few runs but the thermostat hardly expands...if at all. In other words, the spring for the flaps stays pulled, and the flaps stay closed. How long should it take for the thermostat to expand...or is it defective...or am I missing something here?
Thanks

I installed one of those recently. I was surprised at how fast it opens. A quick drive around the block and it is already mostly open.

Hmmm. I drove for 25 minutes...and no real movement. Busted?

If you want to test it remove it and drop it in a pot of boiling water. It should streach pretty quickly.

Always test it installed in the bracket or it could over-expand and get ruined. You can test it in the car with a heat gun. And without the lower tin piece installed it may open slowly due to incorrect airflow.

What lower tin piece? Is ther some sort of lower cover for this?

First thing I always do is toss those stupid pieces away! God , they get in to way of my slopping more red RTV around the pushrod tubes to stop the oil leaks.
