On the OE front struts how do you tell whether they are the Boge or the Bilstine?
I seemed to recal that one used a coarse thread cap and the the other a fine thread, but not to sure about that?
Is there a part # stamped somewhere? If so what are the part #'s?
All the Boges say Boge on them. Porsche only lists one part number for the strut itself (well two actually) One for early and one for late. Normally you just tell by looking at the shock. All Bilstein front shocks for early 911 and 914 are upside down. Meaning that the fat part of the shock is UP and the small diatemer stem is down inside the strut (you knew that). The Bilstein takes a special tool to install the collar.

So the fact that a Strut has a Bilstine cartridge (shock) in it is irrellevent unless its mounted upside down?
Do you have a pic of one?
Well.. what I'm saying is: You can put a Bilstein in all Boges. They only sell them in a upside down config (like inverted forks on a dirt bike). I dont think I have a pick of one. Let me look.

Brad, while on the subject of struts.......I have original Boge struts on my six project. There are some NOS Boge inserts advertised on Club classifieds at a very good price. Says they fit 4 or 6. PET is not real clear but seems to show different struts but same inserts for both cars. Pelican Parts says use 911 insert for the 6. I have no desire to install expensive performance shocks if I don't have to. What do you say?
Buy those Boges. They slide right in.
