914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Removing old torsion bars...

Posted by: Mike D. Sep 4 2003, 12:18 AM

Did a search for this...Didn't turn up anything.

One of the old bars cam out no problem but the other one won't budge. I'm trying to remove them with the A arms still on the car so I don't really want to light it on Fire (I know someone is gonna say "use heat").

Anyway, I was getting so frustrated headbang.gif that I picked up the drill and was about to drill a hole in the front end cap for a punch. But the little voice in my head whose always fixing my 914 mistakes said "STOP, go inside and look it up on the internet"

So anybody BTDT, and have any suggestions?

TIA

I just pried mine out. You can take tha front cap off and pound it out with a punch and hammer. You might have to take the valence off, which requires you to remove the front bumper, but its easy.

Tap the cap out like Chris suggested. It will flip in the bore... and the torsion bar will be staring you in the face.

Chris, Brad, Thanks that worked...But now what am suposed to do about the hole. Can I just hammer that piece back in, leave it off, fill it with wax, what?

Brad, I'm striping the black car. Everything is getting moved over to my '74 chassis. The black will re-enter the world as a 4-lug fuel injected 2.0 4cyl.

The piece will hammer back in as long as you didnt destroy it getting it out.
