Ordered a header from George in Nevada. Originally I was getting the header with a Megaphone. Thought about that for a few minutes and realized thats fucking loud, so I talked to George and ended up getting the muffler he makes for his headers. Does anybody have a picture of what this muffler looks like? He said it is about 80-84 decibels. How loud is that compared to a Bursch? confused24.gif

I thought you had a triad?

Posted by: Brad Roberts Sep 4 2003, 01:01 AM

I think that might be the one pic I dont have (Georges muffler).

It is about the same as a Bursch. It will sound deeper however.

Nope, I was getting one, but went the Header route. i still might get a TRiad for "winter" use when the heat exchangers go back on. Triad also makes mufflers for headers, so maybe one of those is in my future...??

how does a bursch sound compared to a monza... I may need a muffler soon, and have heard th monza is less than ideal, but I like the sound!

Posted by: seanery Sep 4 2003, 10:49 AM

happy birthday!

Posted by: maf914 Sep 4 2003, 10:58 AM

Lot of different opinions about the Bursch. Years ago, I had a new Monza. Thought the Ansa/Abarth look was cool at the time. I used the Monza for less than a year. Too damn loud. I would avoid using the gas pedal in my neighborhood, especially when driving down the lane into my driveway. I just got tired of it. Some time later I tried a Bursch. While a bit louder than stock, I thought it was okay and used it for years. Decent value in my opinion. I would use one again, but would spring for some sort of high temp coating, because they burn off their cheap paint and rust. Since the collector hangs below the rear valence you can see the rusty pipes.

thanks sean...

I'm torn... I love loud, but I don't want to lose Hp to get a nice sound that scares small children and makes old people ruin their "depends"...

did anyone ever find out how much it would cost for an exhaust that uses flowmasters, or glasspacks!!??

Posted by: seanery Sep 4 2003, 02:10 PM

triad sounds like the ticket.

I've got one, but haven't heard it yet, but the NW guys seem to love 'em.

It was $360 delivered I think. It looks nice, too.

search Triad and you'll find a couple threads about 'em.

yes, much better than the light-bucket tragedy... this one has issues, but nothing some engine work won't cure... too bad I'm kinda on-hold right now... until after the wedding at least(too damn broke)... I plan to fart with it this weekend, I want to hear that 1.8 crank-up, but I think the starter is hosed(good thing I have 2 backup starters!)

360 for a triad exhaust?! idea.gif that sounds like a sweet-ass deal! the Bursch is almost 300! is the triad street-legal? I don't give a damn about smog... I'm grandfathered in on that one! w00t.gif

Posted by: redshift Sep 4 2003, 03:02 PM

Yeah, the triad is street legal.

I am thinking about putting one on my new 2.0, until it blows up.

I just looked at the website... 100db and great performer... sign me up! that's a hell of a deal if you ask me.

I plan to ask them about SS HEs too!

Posted by: seanery Sep 4 2003, 06:09 PM

He sells the SSI's. I can't remember what he asks for them. I bought a set of 2.0 SSI's on ebay for $255 plus shipping, even included a nasty-ass tube muffler.

Thanks for the ego boost. Hope I can answer any questions about Triad products.

Posted by: Bleyseng Sep 4 2003, 09:30 PM

How many more months do you have to wait?

wink.gif

Maybe Brad can record a sound byte for us all?

Waiting on the machine shop to get the heads back to me. 4 engine stands and none of them free right now. Lovely waiting on other people to get your shit done. 5 sets of heads out to 2 different shops.

Speaking of engine stands... I just bought one. Is the VW adapter in use, or around? huh.gif

Posted by: Brad Roberts Sep 4 2003, 11:00 PM

Not in use. Collecting dust. I had it in the back of my truck until last night. Cleared everything out to deliver over 100 pieces to the powder coat guy today.

Thanks.

100 parts! You're leading the perfect life! I met with a company looking for additional VC funding, and attended a CIO panel discussion.

I am reading an interesting and informative guide on being an entrepreneur though.

I'd take working with P cars anyday!!!!!!!!!!!
