914World.com _ 914World Garage _ I have 2 extra nipples...

Posted by: 914zim Sep 5 2003, 10:09 PM

Now that I got your attention... laugh.gif
I noticed that my rear brake calipers have both an upper and a lower bleed nipple like the fronts. Does this mean a PO put front calipers on the rear?
I also noticed the P-brake isn't connected either, which I think is another indication.
I am going to order the rebuild kits, but I want to know if I should order 4 front kits.
Where should I get the kits from and how much are they?
Any info is appreciated...

Nope.....lower nips are useless....upper ones allow ya to bleed bubbles per Newton's law....

as for the calipers, don't use the lower nipples for bleeding as you will have air remaining in the upper part.

A dead hairless rat!

That is a big friggin rat, especially when you use that electrical socket for scale. Looks like it's straight from the Pleistocene, sheesh..

Any idea why the rear calipers have two nips? Does that mean they're interchangeable between sides of the car (left and right)?

He needs to check and see if the lever arm is on the bottom of the caliper for the Ebrake. If they have NO arm.. then the PO put fronts on the rear.

Thanks guys for the help and lols!!!
I was wondering what crazy posts my message would bring out smile.gif
Here's an update...
I do have the E-brake arm on the bottom of the calipers on the rear, so I guess they are true rear calipers, even if they do have an upper and a lower nipple - correct?
Today, I took both rears off and split them, removed the pistons (pretty grungy).
I'm very sure there were completley seized up. I am going to order the rebuild kits online tonight. Do I clean everything up with brake cleaner only?
Thanks again for all the help.
Andy...

You will clean them up with brake cleaner and re-assemble them with brake fluid.
