914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Tightening Pressure Sender ??

Posted by: vesnyder Mar 16 2006, 10:04 AM

I am planning on putting in the pressure sender this coming weekend. I've purcahsed the kit that comes with the line to get the sender away from the block, but after looking at it I was wondering what tool I am going to use to tighten the hose down with the sheet metal surrounding it? Maybe when I get in there it will not be as tight as it looks, but do you guys have any tips or tricks to tighten the hose into the block?

a modified (cut open) deep well thin walled socket

a thin "crows" foot might work as well, but I've only used the cut open socket

unless the engine is out and the tin is off.....

then you gotta use a modded deep socket

i don't remember the torque spec at the moment, but i don't believe that the sender needs to be on there very tightly. use some thread sealer tape.

I modified a box end wrench. First I bent the box 90 degrees to the handle as short as possible. Then I cut a notch out for the hose to pop through. Made the notch 90 degrees clockwise from the handle.

nicely done...

i assume you ahd to heat the wrench to bend it?

Careful with that thread sealer tape. First, this is a tapered pipe thread, which should usually not require any sealing tape. Second, the sender grounds to the engine through these threads, and sealing tape can insulate this ground, resulting in no reading.

good point on the grounding...

while on that subject, if you use the relocation hose (rubber OR SS braid) you will still need to ground the sender....

mine is done by the clamp that secures it.... others use wire itself....

apparently the SS braided hose has o rings in it that keep it from being used to ground it.....

that's a good point. i went light on the thread tape, and my reading is normal. well... normal as far as my knowledge goes, which isn't far at all. biggrin.gif

I torqued mine down with a set of bent-needle-nose plyers. hasn't leaked yet
