For those not reading along in the colorado track thread.
Your going to miss getting to see this wicked ride...
but I thought people would love the picture anyways so I'm posting it again in this seperate thread:

would that be a "dead sled"
What is in it, the 545ci? those suck gas bigtime but talk about hp/torque!
Ahhh cool...
When Neil Young made his way from Canada to California in the 60s, he often used a hearse to get around. When asked why he stated, They got plenty of room for equipment and could be gotten cheap, since no one really wanted them.
Owner is named James..
he is a PCA club racer too... although the pictured car is an original VIN -6 with a monster 3.6installed in it.
Trailer is a custom order aluminum with a long tongue to clear that big rear door on the tow vehicle.
The inside back of the hearse is partitioned for each of his too boxes, jack, spare parts containers, and items..
He once told me that with the aluminum trailer you could barely tell you were towing anything...
I once rode in the back of the hearse (slippery vinyl flooring) on the race track... Man did that think lean in the corners.. Really throws you from side to side!
Looks to be a 1968 model....472 cubic inches, 375 BHP and almost 500#' torque.
My parents used to always have caddys when I was a kid. Had a 1970 with that same motor in it. 3 tons of car and you could smoke the tires from a standing start all the way thru an intersection.
We used to tow camping trailers with them. so much torque you never needed to manually shift the automatic into a lower gear on hills.
That is a nice set up and I am sure he hardly knows it is behind him.
I want to be in a hearse only once! Thank you very much!
Just look at the neg camber on the rear.
The Porsche, that is.
are those the deep dish fuchs on the rear?
Looks like 7s front and rear to me

There used to be a guy in Atlanta that yould tow his 914 to the races behind his 928.
I think he told me they were 225 tires on 7x16rims with stock fenders.
brant
That is what I used to run on my 914-6 with stock fenders....only slightly pulled. 7x15 225 track and 7x16 225 street.
Brant, not to change the subject....but what kind of fender to ground measurements do you have with your racecar? Or what reproduceable measurements could you let me in on?
Do you have RSR style front struts or shortened struts and shocks?
Getting ready to set my ride height and want to get as low a possible with standard struts with konis in front and sport Bils in the rear.
thanks
Dan,
I don't think my numbers will translate very well for you.
On the front I'm running chopped struts with custom length shocks and the smart racing bumpsteer kit (out on the tie rod) plus a regual old rackspacer bump kit with extra washers in it to max out the clearance.
on the rear I'm running a custom lenght shock too
I think initially we set it up to 2.5 inches at the rear donut.
but that was just way too low and we cranked it up to I believe 4inches at the rear donut on the back.
my fenders are so molested I wouldn't feel right giving you any measurements from there...
I'll find out our front measurements from dad if you like.
we always use the attatchment bolts on the front crossmember (near the torsion bar adjusters) as a front measuring point:

Thanks Brant.
yowzer....that is low. I likey
since I am running normal length shocks front and rear I guess I will need to go a tad bit higher than your pic
Yeah...
it was too low to get your foot under the rocker cover if you had a shoe on...
thats why we bumped it back up...
not realistic... and no jack would fit underneath.
My vintage club doesn't allow changed suspension points and thus the dropped spindles are not legal for me...
(they didn't say anything about sectioning the struts so that was technically legal as all the suspension mounting points remain stock)
I think 4inches was our mark at the rear and slight rake down towards the front.
brant
thanks Brant. I am waiting to see KenH after he sections his front struts to see how it works. I my consider doing RSR style struts in the future.
Nice trailer Donnie! Love the cookies
Its not too visible, but you can barely see the weld seam in this picture of our front strut:

I see the weld. looks like an interesting way to get around some suspension and rules issues. Our club allows just about anything since we now have a points based classification. Just depends on where you want to end up competing.
