Just got off the phone with Kevin and the tow truck just dropped off the car with some damage but not too bad. The kid had dumped in about a mile away in a powerline access road.
Kevin says tell everyone "Thanks for the support". Yeah, he was sooo effin happy on the phone.

Bet the little snot-nosed kid got frustrated with the tranny, haha. Glad to hear it's back...maybe he did kill the tranny or motor..."hello insurance company, I need a new (911) motor and tranny" I'd wouldn't know what to do if someone stole my car! Glad it's safe again.

I'm using the jack stand policy at the moment, but I've got to get it back on the ground soon.

Congrats on getting the car back! Great news. I'm wondering what the options are for individuals to get fingerprints and check them to identities? We see it on TV and the Movies, is there a company out there that will check and sell you the name of the fingerprint person?

Here's a pic of the car. Kevin should have it running again on Sunday hopefully.

Glad to read you have the car back. Be sure the car is as is was. Don't rush into settling with your insurance adjuster. Invite him over and be sure he takes lots of photo's. Give him a ride in the car. Then have him drive it. Make sure the car doesn't pull, run, or shift any different than it did before it was stolen. Spend some time with the gay. If you have problems related to the theft later it is nice to have an understanding with him.

Posted by: campbellcj Sep 12 2003, 10:10 PM

Great news Kevin!

A guy I used to work with had his brand new Toyota pickup stolen from his driveway once; it had LoJack and the police recovered it within a couple of hours, and very minimal damage.

LoJack used to be $500 though AND I think had a monthly/annual fee. But I think their gimmick was they'll pay your ins. deductible if the car isn't recovered? It's been a long time since I looked into it, but it might be worth another consideration.

Posted by: anthony Sep 12 2003, 10:14 PM

Note to self - no more keys left in the garage.

Speaking of alarms. Besides lojack, do people have alarms installed on their 914s? Are they worth it? I always figured that if someone wanted to steal my 914 that they would just flat bed it away.

Posted by: campbellcj Sep 12 2003, 10:24 PM

Yeah, I sometimes have been known to leave keys in the car or nearby in the garage unsure.gif But normally I keep 'em locked up inside the house and keep the cars locked and alarmed if applicable, even in the garage. Also at least one of our dogs usually sleeps in the garage.

Back in the early 90's my old blue 911 almost got stolen from inside our condo unit garage. It happens all the time. I don't generally believe alarms are worth a crap, but in that case the alarm actually saved the car (it was loud as hell and the car was parked right under the landlord's bedroom!)
