Hi Folks,
Here is a picture of the engine I'm scraping up cash for. If you have any VW type1 hotrod buddies looking for parts, please show them my parts for sale page:

Yes I'm coming over to the dark side...2.6 type 4 Motec fuel management TMW throttle bodies, Pauter internals etc. I plan to make a new fan shroud from aluminum. I think this will look pretty good in the back seat of my Ghia. Also an easy installation to the 901, has nice exhaust so I won't have to do a bunch more fabrication...besides all the surgery required to fit it all in the Ghia, that is.

er - MID engine? Major surgery, indeed!
(/me scrounges around for the "This thread is worthless without MORE pics" icon. . . )
Where did you get that engine and how much was it???? That thing will be a beast...I thought my turbo motor would be bad ass...

Wow....that thing is going to be a beast...what is the engine using for cylinders? Any more specs?
and yes...more pics

John, have you considered the Berg 5-speed transmission?
The Berg 5 has some good options: (1) a choice in Berg shifters with 0%, 40%, or 60% reduction in shifter travel, and (2) the "locker option" which locks the car in Reverse when you park it..

Hi Roger,
I'm going mid-engine, and have a rebuilt 901 from John Walker ...for less than a Berg unit anyway.
Here are the stats as they are presented to me by the seller:
Case: Porsche type4, modified for full flow oil, machined spot
>faced the case to facilitate larger case bolts that fit great
>
>Heads: Porsche, big valve 48 intake 38 mm for the exhaust, berg
>springs, ported and polished and matching manifolds, 1.48 Pauter
>roller rockers, welded and relived valve covers. (i'd put CSP valve
>covers but I don’t think they fit the rollers.
>
>Crank: Pauter, welded and cross flowed and stroked out to - 78MM and
>hardened
>
>P&L: 103 mm Keith Black - Chevy 454 pistons with valve pockets
>
>High flow oil pump – setup for full flow
>
>Cam : webcamshafts - #86a specs are:
>.435 lift times it by 1.48 rockers - .684 lift
>290 advetised duration
>252 duration at .050 lift off the cam
>Strong mid range and top end for high performance mech. street
>engines. Valve springs recommended
>
>Rods: Pauter 4340 Billet rods chrome moly - hardend
>
>Bernie bergamn shroud – rabbit alternator, Porsche fan (his design –
>looks like a Porsche fan but of his design)
>
>Induction: TMW 45MM throttle bodies through itg filters
>
>Computer control – supplied by a Motec M4 with the advanced tuning
>options, sequential injection, and distributor less ignition, 32bit
>microprocessor – tunes the car 300 times a second, laptop
>configurable
>
>Automotive exhaust pipes – stainless steel and slightly larger ID
>than stock
>
>Muffler: triad “T”style glasspack , feeding two more glasspacks
>and the exit are 4” tubes
$6000 seems like a real good deal to me, only 1k on the engine...he's upgrading! He has over $12,000 into this one.
Sorry no more pictures until I get the thing in the car, but first I have sell lots of stuff...

John,
I had fantasized about a mid-engine ghia in the past. In my dream - the decklid had been welded shut, and the whole back end flipped up like a 550. . . - but I reckon that the old engine compartment is actually big enough to be made into a trunk for storage. . .
Damn...That is a great price...I think that the Motec M4 is worth close to that alone. Here are the specs of my turbo type-4 conversion for my 912. It is getting there.
