I think my shocks are moving back and forth near the bottom of the strut (arrow 2) when I grab the tire/wheel at the 12 and 6 position.
Is this anything to worry about?
The nut (arrow 1) is tight and I cannot feel movement any other place on the suspension.
No movement when I grab the tire/wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock

What shocks..?? What struts ??
It sounds like the shocks need a small collar on them under the threaded collar.
Koni's in Carrera struts need this collar...
NO matter how tight you tighten the top.. the strut will still be loose in the strut.

stock /4 struts ('74)
Koni Sport Yellows
You might make a bushing to take up the extra room...I dont know if mine do that or not, maybethe inner strut housing is worn?\
My shock came loose at the top nut and I could tell when I was driving that something was not right
They sent you the wrong struts.. or you bought the wrong ones. Or.. you bought them ages ago for 911 Carrera struts.
You need a collar at the top of the shock.
I have some. I will return this week and give you some. Jason@P.com charges 5.00$ apiece for them.

I bought the front Konis used (appear to be damn near new, I know the PO never ran them)
The nut fits tightly around the top of the insert, I cannot imagine it moving at that location.
Wanna place any bets ??
I also question what collar you used to tighten them into the strut.
B
either add a shim at the base or compare some collars to see if your using the correct one.
The correct ones for your strut should be round and have two small holes 180deg from each other in the top.

2nd the motion: top nuts need a coller (or you used the wrong top nut). When I installed mine, I had two sets of top nuts (wrong and correct)... guess which ones I used first
...scratches the hell out of the top of the shock, too (but who's going to see it now, eh?
I've got the dimples on the collars......I'll have the wife move the wheel for me so I can try and get a better idea on what really is moving........
