Bought two teeners today for $25, strange but true
story. Six years ago I had a 73 914, I local guy here in town followed me home one day and asked if I
would be interested in a parts car. In his back yard was a 74 2.0 & a 71 1.7. Both these cars were rusted in half, NO door gaps!
I asked how much for both and he wanted $1500 for them, I offered $100. Needless to say I didn't get
them. Fast forward to 3 yrs ago, out of the blue he calls me asking if I wanted them, this time he wants $800, I offer $75 , again no sale.
Today, I went to lunch at Whopper World wearing my 914club hat. This guy walks up to me and starts talking 914, says he has two in his back yard, yada, yada.... I tell him yep I know, he tried to sell them to me twice be for, well it seems the city is on his ass and he must get them out of his yard by the end of November.
So I go over and look at them. Yep, same cars in the exact same spot. He says give him my best price, I open my wallet and all I have is a $20 and some singles, so I offer $20. He says $500, I turn and walk away he shouts $25, deal. I give him $23 and $2 in change. I have three weeks to get these cars out of his yard. So it looks like I have a two parts cars that I should have never bought but, for $25 I couldn't pass them up
So stay tuned. There is a few parts I want, the rest will be posted here over the next few months. Half the $$ from selling parts will go to my 914 AutoX fund the other half to a local charity of some sort.
Anyway, theres my story. I will post some pics after the weekend.
- Garold (AKA the 914 Fred Sanford )
Nice story. But, I think you folded too early and he got the better of you.
If you walked away one more time, you could have made the deal for discount coupons on a Value Meal.
Good story.
I bet he woulda paid ya to haul them away if ya tried harder.....
You should have held out for a better offer.
Congrats, now you can take them both apart to learn more about yours.
Way to go Garold and welcome to the 914 junkin business.
It's kinda fun taking them apart - great way to learn alot about the 914.
Was either of them signal orange?
Good story! Best way to get the little parts. There is always something you need.
Now if you have a good front trunk floor and front........... hehe!
Unlike the west coasters 914's are rather scarce in our state.

Any of them got decent quarters on 'em? I still haven't brought myself to cut the fenders off of my old project car for the new one.

Well that beats the shit out of the teen I got last year for $500 canadian (about $375US?)
I wanted a scrapper for spares, found one rusted into the ground. It had a set of 5 fuchs and a 2.0, so I offered him $400 on the spot he said $500, so I said sure and said I'd pick it up that weekend.
When loading it broke in half, held together by the shift rod and wiring harness (hack and snip) started to think maybe I got hosed.
Then he told be to be carefull with the ass as it had a new (then) set of SSI exchangers on it.
Then he brought out a box with a new set of OEM E.brake cables and a clutch disc (4spring, oh well) manuals and small parts, etc., so cool.
Then he opened the garage and said that he had all the parts, except the tub, from another 914 and they were part of the deal. Including another 2.0! cool!
Just before I went to leave I was small talking with the guy, I said that I needed new shocks for my teen and he says "Oh... just before I parked it I installed a new set of Bilstiens and springs, they might be still good". They were good (they're on my teen now) so total bonus!!!
But still I didn't get it for $25! what a rip!!!
P.S. I still have his teen way in the back yard.

Rick,
Is that your Heb?
Totally sweet if it is dude!
I'm doing a 36hp Okrasa engine right now, but I'm looking for a bug for it.
My buddy has a sweet '53 bug and he wants me to stick the Okrasa in it, so he can win some shows, but I dont know if I'll let him "borrow" it.

I was looking for a transaxle to replace a bad on in a 1.7, and after a couple weeks, I bought a Hemmings, and found an ad in Pcar/Parts.
Porsche 914, For Parts. $450.00. It was about 6 blocks away!
We go over there, and I'll be damned, it's a 73 2.0 with 42000 miles, with Ford interior blue overspray on 60% of it, including glass.
It took about 8 hours to get the overspray off my new near mint 'needs a battery' 42000 mile 2.0.
Just sold her last year after putting around 120+k on her, with only normal maint.

There was a guy that sold a kit to turn a bug into a Heb back in the late eighties, he had a weird name, Billy Burly or something.
I don't think he makes them anymore.
He also made the Rolls-Royce bug kit and Foxcraft fender copys.
Hebs are cool, I restored a 25hp for one in the early 90's.
Heb.
Those are cool looking, tell me what it is.
Looks like an '30s English VW, with a tuxedo.

Sorry, Foxcraft fender skirts is what I ment.
The 50's style rear fender skirts for bugs, old school cool. Splitty and oval dudes cream their jeans over this shit.
A NOS complete set will sell for $1000USD easy.
I sold a set 3 yrs ago that were rusty, with no seals or hardware, but restorable for $300USD at 'The Great Canadian Bug Show' in Toronto.
7:00am, 2nd thing off the truck, sold. wham-bam thank-you sir!
I also have an almost NOS (painted but never installed) complete set sitting here on the shelf.

I like the avatar angle better than the rest of the car, but MAN that is pretty.
Thanks for the links.
