is there a big bore kit that will drop into a 1.7 litre motor. one that doesn't require machining?
thank you
Robin
ALL CASES ARE THE SAME- 1.7-2.0!!!
The difference is the crank, rods and pistons..
The head registers are 100mm on the 1.7 and 105mm on the 1.8 and 2.0 heads...
I recommend using our 96mm big bore kit for the 1.8 engine and replacing your heads with 1.8 units- all interchangeable with larger chamber volumes, bigger ports and bigger valves!
Stay away from the 96mm kits for the 1.7 head register they are thin and very problematic. You CAN open the 1.7 heads from 100 to 105mm, but you'll still have smaller valves ports and chambers, all of which iompeded efficiency of the combo..
Not quite George. There is a 96 mm piston and cylinder set that will drop into a 1.7. There are two issues with doing this, the cylinder heads, as mentioned, and the wrist pin height. If you try to put pistons designed for a 2.0 onto a 1.7 you will have deck height issues. You must get pistons designed for a 66 mm stroke crank (stock 1.7).
I believe http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/store/product.php?productid=16171&cat=275&page=1 but you should email them to make sure before ordering.
Mark thanks for the clarification
Do a search an "1911". Its a pretty decent upgrade
