I need to thank you for posting the photo too. Today I stopped by my paint shop and stood and looked at my torn apart project car, trying to find the inspiration to work on it again. The rust is all gone and it hangs in the air in dust covered primer. I'm afraid if I "improve" the looks of it from this state my soon to be "ex" wife's lawyer will put a higher value to all my efforts.
Someday I'll be done with the lawyers and I'll finish the beast. Then I'll be joining you folks in person with my toy.

I just rolled back into the house.
Great time except for being thrown out of the hotel Saturday night.
I apparently insulted one of the bartenders by using the F word and ass in the same sentence.
I'll never stay at a Hilton owned hotel again.

why would you be talking to a bartender at a teener event?
at wcc 06 i don't remember there ever being a need for a hotel bartender.

Got back an hour and a half ago. Very very tired. Still trying to unwind. Got pics (and vids!) but they're still in the camera; not sure when I'll have a chance to post them.
Fun time! Thanks to McMark for organizing it!
Demick won the 914 "section" of the autoX; but he couldn't catch the aluminum V8-powered Lotus 7 clone. Gwenn bought the glasses at the auction, Jimtab bought the rear calipers, Grasshopper bought the fronts. I think Elliott bought the sill plates? I bought the Ultimate Megasquirt setup; thanks Dave H!

The Sunday road tour was Fantastic! Great roads and scenery. Traffic was almost non-existant (except for us). The pace at the front was frantic. Speed freaks only needed to run near the front to get their fix. I think the mood after the tour was similar to after Thanksgiving dinner, when everyone pushes back from the table a little tired, but fully satisfied.
Posted by: smj Jun 18 2007, 03:33 PM
Gwen: Sorry, next time I'll give you more warning about an impending photo. I've got about a dozen shots of your flares from different angles so I can put something similar together for the /6.
Demick: No kidding, the run in from the coast was awesome! I latched on as the caboose of the first group to take off and had a complete blast.
I've got more photos coming, but I have to do a bit of organzing and sorting first. Unfortunately most of my ramble photos are blurry and out of focus -- that's what I get for trying to drive at the same time...

I'm really glad you enjoyed the tour on Sunday! I've been enjoying the same roads for most of my life and it was great being able to create a tour that showed off a few of our best.
There are many more, and I'll be happy to put together another mini tour for anyone who might like to see more of the area.

Michael - you are my new hero.
For those that weren't there, Michael and his wife each had their own 914's (Michael in a white six and his wife in a Bumblebee), and each with a child passenger in a carseat (cute kids!!). They all drove the whole 4+ hour twisty road tour. What a bunch of troopers!
As I said, I'm sending my wife and kids to your house for training.

I didn't mean "the" Jim.
Jim (roadster fan) disassembled, powdercoated, and reassembled my trailing arms last year. I sent them to him via my sister (who commutes to SJ from Santa Cruz) and after they were done I picked them up at his house in Aptos when he was out of town. So big thanks to Jim whom I've never met! That's a great example of club brotherhood!

Just got home about an hour ago. I'm pretty sure I was the last 914 to leave the hotel this morning (noon).
Although I'm probably not the last one getting home. I'm enjoying the FREE bottle of Zin from the WCR. Most of my pics look like the one's already posted. Big thanks to McMark and all the sponsors,
In addition to losing Allan from the hotel we only lost our child (the two year old) once.
Another 'big thanks' to Scott Detros' lovely wife and daughter for finding him walking into their room to say "HI". I'm a good parent!
Well what you lack in parenting skills you more than make up for in driving skills... If people could have only seen you running from that angry bumblebee that sounded like a chain saw they would forget your parenting skills... Besides, Evan was just out making friends... It was fun to watch Erin run like a shoplifter on crack though... I think she made it from the room to the front desk in 2.8 seconds. A NEW PARENTING RECORD IN THE TWO YEAR OLD DIVISION!!!

So...how come there were so few of you NARP types at the WCR this year?

Hey now, just a minute, that stands for "Wave The Flag"!!!

Gwen,
Sorry I had to miss it. It just didn't jive with Father's day and it was a long haul. I made Portland last year and as fun as it was, it was too far.

Unless everyone there had 911's, I believe there were quite a few NARPs there

With more NARPsters we would have downed another keg for sure - cheers to Elliot and Alan and others for making a good showing
Marty - my translation for that is "W (i.e. G Dubbya Bush) / What The Fu!@$k"
I had soooo many little and big improvements for my 914 planned before WCR, and was kinda embarassed that so few were done. Nobody cared I had a great time every minute of the WCR. Tooo much fun! Kinda wished there was more time to enjoy my expensive room, AC, cable TV (don't have that at home), king size bed, pool, hot tub etc
Driving home I realized how much I now prefer to choose the twistiest roads and caravan with at least 20 other 914s. So when is the next NorCal 914 rallycross?
Oh yeah - THANKS McMark, Rob, Randy, Dave, and all others that helped make WCR 07 a reality! It was my first WCC/WCR, and hopfully not my last.

Chris,
All I did was provide a fresh thought and some perspective Mark might have been too close to see now and then... Besides that, I just called Mark regularly to remind him to breath in and out. (We are going to have to get him out from under that hammer soon so he does keep breathing in and out.) So, I thank you for the mention but I did so very little compared to others.

Club NARP types at the WCR this year?
Central and So Cal aren't so far away

Father's day with my wife & daughter was perfect
From Phoenix, Moab is about 8hours(vs 13ish to Napa) and Abq is right at 7 hours.

We were very happy to see the Club NARP people who came. It is a very long drive and 914s are notoriously unreliable after all these years.
I will always treasure meeting Jim and Lynn, LYut, and Allan... I have never been to a So Cal event yet so I will throw no stones. It was very cool of the Central Coast people and So Cal people to come. Thanks so much for making my weekend richer.

Glad you enjoyed your Father's Day. Still not sure I'm going to give you the 'too far' excuse seeing as how we had a couple cars come down from Washington and others flew in from farther.

pebbles and twigs really...
The turn out this year was good, but having gone to Portland last year, I think we could have had even more in attendance.
It's all good. We represented

Gwen, sorry I didn't make it. Combo of daughter's b'day and F day that weekend.
Besides, I only go to 914 events on Jewish Holidays.

It was really nice to finally meet you and Yopu. I really want to thank you for the help (You remember the trailer).
If you ever need anything, let me know (unless it involves windshield trim pieces).
I want to thank not only Mark, but everyone I met over the weekend.
You guys are my family.
If anyone tells me that I'm a geek for hanging out with you guys, I'm gonna sic Gwen on them.

Thanks Mark for putting on such a great event! I can't believe the beautiful condition of all the cars. They were all fantastic.
Pete Stout, editor of excellence magazine put together a collection of 14 editions of the magazine dating back to 1987 with feature articles about the 914.
Winning this collection Sunday night...........priceless!
Thanks Pete!!

We need a rule that no more post-event photos are allowed to be posted anymore - it makes too many of us sick that we couldn't make it!!!
Wow, it sure looks like a great time. Had time and money allowed, I'd have been there with no problem. Just the thought of driving the teener over the Sierra's to get to the coast makes my mouth water. Seeing the drive up the coast makes it even more enviable.
Thanks to Mark & Company for putting it together, even if I couldn't come.
I'll be in Moab for sure!

Hey Bill - you definitely have nothing to be ashamed about! Your car is great! I can easily tell you've put a lot of time and effort into it.
Thanks again for organizing the caravan from Santa Cruz to Rohnert Park and special thanks to your wife for driving the support vehicle and putting up with all the 914 nuts!

Forgot to post the obligatory autocross pic.
Those folks in the field are actually course workers - fun road course, lots of turns between the camera and the guys in the distance to the left!
BTW - Bill beat me by over 2 seconds!

Here are the two videos that I got on Sunday. Not as exciting as Sir Andy's, but lots of 914s nonetheless!

Oh gosh no Gwen! You are a master at guilting. So good in fact that I was trying to mitigate the damages in case any of our NARP brethren are feeling suicidal... We don't want that!

Some of you asked for another NorCal drive. I've started a new thread about this over here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=73131
Hope you can make it!
