This is a lake! We have had snow later than I can ever remember it around here. Very cool to see.
Very casual drive, only a few times did we play cat and mouse. Everyone was behaved on the road and we even avoided a smokey with his raidar gun. As far as I know, no one got nabbed!

Friday was great, THANK YOU to Greenie and Wife! I met up with group two in Kingston with my neighbor, Dale. He thought that was gathering, he was very surprised to see the REAL gathering at Port Gamble. He is a new era MINI driver and commented that his club barely gets that many people to show up and THEY PAY DUES!
I am SO bummed that I am writing this post from my deck that I had to have a cigar and a wee dram of whiskey to drown my sorrows of not being there today. Seems no matter how old they get, little brothers still are able to be a major pain in the ass! He had his wedding reception today. Just Kidding about him, but REALLY? THIS WEEKEND??
You guys all rawk, even Craig. And seeing the result of the peanut gallery pictures, the line up was totally worth it. I have some shots to post later. For those who may not have know, I was the guy in the red Ferrari team shirt driving the unwaxed green 1970. When you have a green car and you know Greenie will be there, why bother shining it?
Cheers,
Dino

I have fun stitching several photos together in Photoshop to create a panorama. This one isn't necessarily so great, but I had to post because of this coincidence: You know how a digital camera numbers the pics? (such as FILE009.JPG)... Well the attached pano is made up of six photos from my camera, which happened to be numbered 9 through 14!!!

Thanks... lot's of great stuff from other guys too... and I know there's even more out there.
Some of the pics are sharper than others... all of the ones on the road were shot blind (camera through the targa), so the quality varies. Good enough for web, maybe not for print. If anyone wants a hi-res file to make prints, PM me and I'll let you if the one that you want is good enough. I'll put the hi-res file of the Port Gamble group on my server and post a link. I have the versions with the drivers only and the drivers/passengers as well.
I had a great time, and I want to thank my driver, Roadster Fan!
Edit:
If there is enough interest, I can get a quantity break on large prints (less than $12 for a 16x20), but shipping might eat up the savings.

Yup! Haha. I had enough time while slowing down before the stoplight to tell it was DEAD ignition. I wondered if my Pertronix died or something. Turned out the primary HT wire between coil and dizzy came loose. Plugged it back in and fired right off.

This is my opinion only. I think the food is nice, the beer is good, the drives and any track events are OK. The real fun for me is the parking lot stuff. The BS and attaching faces to names is great. Stories of the old days and some of the characters these cars have attracted are great. Checking out the cars is great. The journey to and from is great (not much travel this time for me). It's tough to put a price on that stuff.

True but that never stops anyone from asking about my wife!!!
Obvious exceptions are Toast, Jenny, and Shelby...
Mr Conedodger out of 99 reasons to show up at WCR you couldnt find one?? sure missed ya we all had a great time and the weather couldnt have been better
Well, I certainly wanted to be there... Unfortunately priorities kept me away... If I had known McMark was not there I would have dialed his digits and got some help with my project... I 5 lugged the front and started pulling my engine yesterday. Probably will get it done today.
Glad y'all had a good time and the weather was fine...
Actually though, there were 100 reasons. None of you guys seemed to notice the 100th reason posted on Thursday morning!!! Yopu looked great in that cheerleader outfit and yes, she was a cheerleader at her school...

Even though Jamie and I had a few curve balls thrown at us, I for one can say I had a great time, especially meeting all the neat folks that made the trip. The parking lot truly became the "wateringhole" of the event.
One thing for sure after seeing all the great cars, I sure wish I was able to bring one up. Perhaps next year. I'm really anxious to get home to get my project going.
Thought everone might enjoy this cliff notes "video" version of Jamie's weekend at the WCR 2008. Don't forget to turn your speakers on for some sweet sounds.

Awesome thread. Great pictures of an obviously fabulous event. What great locations! Beautiful group shots, I love the various "owners and cars series" and Todd's pics got all that "photographer" thing going on with framing and shadows and stuff.
Great job to all! It takes quite a bit of effort to host something like this, and quite a bit of effort just to participate with a 35 year old car. I appreciate the break downs, cramped drives, missed turns, and all the other descriptions of the WCR experience.

If there is one thing I'm good at is striking when the iron's hot ! The last time Janet gave me the go ahead on something it resulted in this year's Ramble.
This car will be for sale very soon, so if you know of someone who might be interested pass it on.

Well, If the pictures are any indication, this was an amazing and well executed event. My hat is off to Greenie and the team and all the spouses who put up with and supported the event... I am so sorry I had to miss it. I haven't even figured out all of the electrical things in my house that were knocked out by the power spike yet. I just finished replacing my programmable thermostat... Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! And I find that the AC isn't working either... The Electric company is going to be here soon to figure out why I am spiking...
If I could ask anything, it would be to have that picture of Ralph Meany sitting in Curt's car printed in 5X7 and autographed??? I promise I will not miss the next NW event.. Promise promise promise!!!

Here is what he used to drive,my shownshine entry had there been one.
1st time on the road in 15yrs.
It was very nice for the few of us that had a chance to visit with Ralph.
A few highlights of our chat:
He described being clocked at 171 MPH in his 2.0L car.
Jim (Roadster Fan ) says he now has the definitive answer regarding the
oilcooler/turbulence debate "it's hard to argue with Ralph"
I asked him a few 911 vs 914 questions " there's so much more you can do with the 914" he said.
Thanks for hooking Ralph up with us, he left with a nice WCR08 T-shirt !
You couldn't bring that car except to a shownshine?

Great drives, great cars, great people, great food, and great drink! It was great to meet many on this board and put faces and real names to screen names and avatars.
Seeing some of the pics that Todd Enlund took from my passenger seat took me right back to the drives and bull sessions in the parking lot. It was great to meet you Todd!
I will sum up our 880 mile journey from Santa Cruz, CA with this:

challenged condition $ 750..................Discussing the racing/construction of a 914/6 GT with Ralph Meaney on Sunday $$$$$$$$ Priceless!!!!!

Good looking car and color combo. It's different and I like that. From the pics I have a suggestion. Despite the primer spots on the car, a $30 sail panel vinyl kit from Camp914 would do wonders for the appearance. At least that would seem to be the case from pics as I said.

If it wasn't so big I would have seen that the tops of my feet were getting sunburned.
Then again, if it was bigger it would have shaded the tops of my feet. What to do?

Whew.............900 miles behind me and the family. We got home about 6 hours ago. Greenie and "The General" (with great helpers) pulled off a terrific weekend.
WCR2008 registration $ 75........1971 Porsche 914 in cosmetically
challenged condition $ 750..................Discussing the racing/construction of a 914/6 GT with Ralph Meaney on Sunday $$$$$$$$ Priceless!!!!!
Can't wait till next year..............yoohoo SoCal peeps where are you?????? If you don't hurry it may have to be in Monterey!
Jim
What I want to ask is did you get your $75.00 Bones worth???
This is my last & final shot at Mr.
6Freak ![poke.gif](style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)
(if he can dish it out ,he's got to be able to take it)
I will have to say that 6freaK turned out to be a very good guy & a nice addition to the group.

Jim it really made the event for me to see you & the family towing your trailer queen all the way up !
See you at next year's WCR09!!!

rob, get ready for the next 410/Rainier run. this time instead of chinook it'll be 410, Stevens Canyon and the back way to Elbe near the Paradise entrance to the park. less camper/folks heading for eastern washington traffic. killer.
I just did that ride, unfortunately it was in a Toyota Tacoma instead of the 914. Since I couldn't make WCR, I'm looking forward to the Rainier run! When? When?

Again, why can't any of you guys read? Have you noticed Greenie's new signature block? Note the line that reads: WCR08 Organizer "Retired" - I'm pretty sure that means permanently retired!
Mine will soon read WCR08 CFO and hand holder - Retired - Been there, done that, got the t-shirt! Now it's across the mountains to Crescent Bar for a long weekend of relaxation (and some drying out . . . )

The General wore many hats during the planning and execution of this event . . . CFO and 'enforcer' were two of them . . .
If you ever need $$$$ collected from someone, you know where to find me - I'm
STILL finding money stuffed in the pockets of various outfits I wore throughout the weekend.
For those of you who said "I'll send you a check early next week" remember - I know who you are, I know where you live, and I will hunt you down . . . .

Sorry about all the trouble. If it makes any difference the WCR was a complete bust. Nobody enjoyed themselves at all. The ride to Ranier was long and boring and I'm told the ferry almost sank and scared the hell out of everyone. The food was lousy and so was the hotel. Half the group was arrested for drunk and disorderly one of the guys was arrested for swimming naked in the pool. The Issawhatsit police were giving out nasty looks to everyone. One of us was even given a speeding ticket (a story that has yet to be finished) immediately upon entering the state of Washington. I myself was forced to drive through the Mt. Hood National Forest!! Nothing but curvy roads, huge pine trees, blue sky, and SNOW. I had to deal with snow in July!! Can you imagine? It was horrible. Because of the fires in California, I was forced to drive up the coastline of California and Oregon, adding literally hours to my trip up there. Nothing to look at but more big green trees and ocean. What a bore! Why your problems PALE in comparison to what we had to indure on the WCR. Count your blessings you weren't there.

Elliot
Snagged this from another thread.

I had to admit that when I heard just how bad WCR was this year, that pile of toasted appliances and electronic devices by my basement door suddenly looked small and insignificant. I felt selfish for bringing it up. I have to thank Elliot for bringing perspective to my point of view. I feel so sorry for those of you who had to go. Perhaps an online support group? It helps when you know others have suffered as you have. I watched Andy's video and I have to admit once you have seen a tree you pretty much have it down... The ocean? It's all wet.
I can hear it now... "hi, umm a... my name is Curt and I went to WCR in Seattle." Hi Curt! "I thought it would be fun but there wasn't any of the famous Northwest rain showers." Oh Curt, we hear you! "At last years WCR someone almost got arrested and they got kicked out of the hotel, This year all we could manage was a speeding ticket." Sounds boring Curt! "I love you guys. I feel so much better now that I have shared." We care Curt! We have been there too! Group Hug!!!

Great time! Where else can you go and someone hands you the keys to his 6 cylinder and says "have fun"? Thanks Jon and thanks to "those guys" that arranged it. I took two days of hell getting back to GA. We spent Sunday night in O'hare and finally ended up in Greenville SC and got a rental car. The glamour of aviation! Now GrasshopperJr can get back to his love life.
