914World.com _ The Paddock _ Falken Azenis

Posted by: Randal Aug 2 2009, 10:51 AM

Been runnng Falken Azenis (205 / 50 /R15's) on the 944 - which work great.

Really would prefer 225's, but they're not available in this tire.

Any tire out the perform like the Azenis and come in 225 - 15's?

Hankook makes a 225/45/15 in their new S3 which is supposed to be better than Azenis. They are only 140 treadwear so should stick better than the Falkens.

Beyond that there isnt much. Wide sizes in 15's are dying breed.

Toyo RA1 and R888 come in 225/45-15

Avoid hankook 15's in 225 unless you like sending tires back and adding tons of weight.

I mounted them myself at the shop, lined up the valve stems proper and still had to send 2 tires back to tirerack because they required way too much weight to balance out.

The two I received back were borderline but better.

Hankook has some poor quality control. But beyond that I am in this boat my daily driver I run 225/50/15 because 400hp and FWD needs a wide foot print.

I just got some Toyo RA1s in 225/50R15 for my 914. I'll let you know how those work out.

A 914 I recently bought had Nitto 275/50 R15 555Rs on it. I hear they hook up very well in a straight line, I don't know about the cornering performance though.

I am currently running Nitto NT1's 225/45/15 on 8x15's, on my 85 944na
They were a huge improvement from kuhmo 700's,
they have a 100 tread rating and I found them for $140

Do they make the NT05 street tire in a 225? That might be a good option for those who want to stick with streets. Issue I have with DOT R's and california roads is that they pickup sharp stuff and puncture more often.

The nitto nt05 start at 17's, although the nitto nt01 are DOT r's the have a 100 tread rating which is high for a R, One of the reasons I chose them, was so I could drive them to the Autox's.
I guess it all depends on how the car is being used, just my two cents. smile.gif
