Hello
My name is Dave Roccaforte and I am a Special Agent with the National Insurance Crime Bureau. I am a retired San Francisco Police Sergeant and have over 40 years of vehicle theft and insurance fraud investigation experience. I am responsible for investigations of this type in the San Francisco Bay Area including San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties. I've conducted a number of Porsche theft investigations over the years including chop shops, VIN-switched vehicles, and run of the mill vehicle recoveries. I signed up for this forum in response to a post from back in 2006: (http://www.914world.com/bbs2/lofiversion/index.php?t43848.html) in which member "mikey" discussed one of his vehicles as "1967 912 (stolen by notorious Bay Area Porsche shop owner)" - it seems we have a common acquaintance. "Mikey" - are you still active on the boards? Could it have been a 1966 912 that was in Half Moon Bay at some time? Even if it's a different vehicle, the word "stolen" got my interest and I wouldn't mind hearing about it. Please contact me, I will watch for a reply on the boards. Dave |

It looks like mikey hasn't posted since March of this year. You can search for him using the tools at the upper right hand of this page. You should be able to e-mail him from there, assuming his e-mail account is still active.

Like dude..... this guy has been ripping off people for years (something like 20 years), I've even heard of him up here in Canada and you're just getting your shit together now???? Actually, I did work him when I was working for the SFPD. Took him off for a stolen engine, stolen transmission, and loose VIN plates when he ran a shop called "South Beach Motors" in San Francisco. One of my colleagues knew him, years ago, from the Half Moon Bay area when he ran a shop there, the Auto Theft Task Force in Santa Clara County investigated his shop in Morgan Hill, CA, he had a shop at Infineon Raceway for a while, and now he is in Petaluma, CA. Social Media wasn't a big thing back in the 80s and 90s so all he had to do is re-invent himself with a new name and location. County wide law enforcement agencies were restricted by jurisdiction. Move from county to county, cool your jets for a while, slowly work back up to speed and you can stay one step ahead of the law. That's why we read the boards now. |

Read the C&P email on page 8 of the link in my last post. This is the same car on evil bay (again) right now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-911E-c...=US_Cars_Trucks Actually, this is for a different vehicle. The license plate shown on the rear of the vehicle in the second image is for a newly registered 1972 911TE which supposed has not been registered (non-op) since 1999. BUT... the license plate shown on the rear of the vehicle in the last image on that row is for the 1969 911 that was in the previous Ebay sale and was subject of that forum discussion. When I worked a case a number of years ago (back in the Born2BFast days), I located the property where he stored a number of his vehicles. There were two white 356 vehicles there that both had the same license plate. I guess old habits die hard. By the way, the verified odometer reading on the documents used to register the 1972 vehicle is approximately 30,000 miles HIGHER than the odometer reading listed in the auction. |
