I seem to remember the red keys were longer and would not open the trunks.

I had this issue when I ordered genuine blank for my ignition,the grooves in the blank meant it only fitted the doors and trunks.
I have no idea what the PO has done with the locks however. |

Whether the key fits or not has nothing to do with the grooves.
Also, there is no difference in length between master and valet keys. |

hard to tell with that picture, but it looks like you are missing a lengthwise groove on the bottom (in that picture) of the key blank.
