So the recent 73 parts car has this funky FI (carb?) setup on it. The engine is a 1.7 if that matters. Never seen this setup before, any thoughts? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Looks like someone swapped out the throttle body on the FI system and put a carb.

Wow, that setup must have sucked!
I can't see much of the carb but if I'm seeing it right, it looks like they added yet another pipe to get the carb fed to the plenum? Having a carb run air/fuel mix though intake runners as long as a 914 is problematic enough. Adding more tube from the carb to the throttle body plenum must have been a real winner. |

Back in 1978, I put a British SU6 carb from a Triumph on a Type 3 Squareback. Ran great... hit almost 110 mph with it on the highway. Ran so well I eventually killed the engine. Thinking back, 110 in a Squareback was not a good idea.
One day, the throttle cable broke. My friend got in the back and moved the throttle by hand while we coordinated me driving and shifting. Fun times for broke kids! |
