EA motors are 1.7 motors; standard for mid-71 (I think) through 73 (except California 73s, which were "EB").
The transaxle is more challenging... I think the switch to the style of number you list was made in mid-72. I think the number you list is a 72 tailshifter transmission, but I'm not completely certain... Could be later, and a sideshifter. It should be obvious, though--if the linkage goes into the side of the transmission, it's a side-shifter. If the linkage enters the transmission through the end cover, it's a tailshifter. All 914-4 transmissions had the same gearing. The only real difference was the shift linkage. So we don't usually worry that much about exactly what year of car the transmission came out of. --DD |
