Got the car running, broke in the cam and drove around to break in the rings. Sweet, and the regeared tranny is awesome.
Brakes suck as there is air in the pvalve and I need to get that out!!!!! Lots of mo'power which is good! Install the rest of the black interior which is soo weird as the car has been tan since I got in 10 years ago. Have to adjust the Tbars as they aren't right but it still kicksass driving around.
I got to spend about 4 hrs on the car today and got half the list done.
Still need to: add oil add tranny oil put on the tires Check CV bolts for torque install battery install black door panels install speedo and cable add gas Damn, thats actually a short list!!! Ok, tomorrow I'll start it up.
Yesterday I worked on finishing up the drivers side brake assembly/suspension then took apart the the other side as I bought a bigger size hub to disc bolts to install. Wrecked the grease seal taking everything apart so I'll have to get another one. Took apart the extra 039 dizzy Blair got and it is a rebuild unit. Too bad it was sitting outside in a plastice bin with 6" of water! Cleaned it up and bought some proper tiny screws to reassemble it as the rebuilder used all kinds of goofy screws with washers to assemble it.
Brand new trigger points too! I dug out the 73-74 Black door panels and also bought a set of chrome window crank handles so those will go in as soon as I get time. What I need to do to finish: assemble right side rotor bleed brakes install rack spacer kit hook up drivers side S duct install new speedo cable hook up clutch cable add oil add tranny oil hook up shifter linkage adjust venting clearance install battery install door panels install speedo install tires test run to oil the engine without plugs install plugs and run it to break in cam (outside)
Blair and I worked on installing the HE's and Bursch after I cleaned them, the rear axles are hooked up the the tranny, put back together the right rear brakes after test fitting the vented discs, and assembled the front left strut but got tired. Shoot, working with only one arm is hard and tiring!
There went four hours! Attached thumbnail(s)
Well, I worked on installing the Tbars and strut for the drivers side getting that to fit right. Finished installing new engine/tranny bolts as the old ones were crappy. The rear vented discs came in so I test fit them and they look right but I will have to have them cut down alittle bit to make them work with the calipers. <_< Attached thumbnail(s)
Blair and I drove down to check out the Black 914 after Dave Hunt did a PPI for me early today. Dave didn't think was all that great, had some rust issues and the engine was toast.
Blair said " Dad, its a Black 914! Lets go look and see how rusty and complete the car is. You know you like to weld...." An hour drive to Bumfuck, Wa which is WAY BEYOND Gig Harbor, WA, we found the place and looked at the black car that has been on the club site. Yep, its black but it was Gemini Blue first! Wow, the seats of torn but the rest of the interior is pretty good. Hmm, front trunt is nice and the rear trunk's paint is wet and sticky? strange? Look under the car and hmm, new 2.0l SSI HE's with a new Monza muffler. Hey, its got a side shifter too. Yep, thats a 2.0l engine. Does it turn over? No! its stuck. Hmm, well, it needs a lot of engine work then. But Dad, its BLACK! ok, the car is bought and now I have another one to work on or as Blair puts it. "We now have a place to put all those spare parts you have been hoarding for 10 years". Attached thumbnail(s)
Shit, work is gonna be on hold for a few weeks unless Blair does it all. I separated my shoulder and broke a rib the other day so installing the engine/tranny is out for now. Shit, I can't lift my arm much nor breath too deeply.
Good thing I like beer cuz I am drinking lots of it lately instead of painkillers. | 0 user(s) viewing
