This weekend I spent some time installing the rest of the FI, injectors, new fuel lines, thermostat, adjusting the valves, dizzy etc. Didn't have more than about 2.5hrs to work but I got it done. I am going to try to install the tranny and engine on Tuesday and get them atleast bolted in. Maybe later this week I can get back over to install the HE's and all that stuff.
Ordered a set of Carrera calipers for the front as they are " supposed" to fit my new struts. Can't wait to see...and try them out! Should be hella improvement in braking and with the vented discs I'll have no fading problems. Now to install the rear spacer setup and install vented rear discs. All in all it will be quite ricey with the 4 wheel vented drilled rotors. haha I don't care!
Finally got the paper gaskets today so I finished the transmisson. Blair and I switched 3rd and 4th gears to a set from a 5 speed 912 box so I now have a close ratio 914 901. Replaced the pilot shaft seal and set the shift forks today plus buttoned it up.
Now back to the engine assembly, which I need to install the FI, set the valves, Alt install and remaining tin. Last week I repaired the battery tray which had ripped out the welds when I spun her. great! So I rewelded it back in. I also will start on installing the new front bushings and the 73 911 struts with the vented discs and M calipers. Attached thumbnail(s)
Well, its been awhile but I finally have the 914 block assembled with the new cam and 26mm oil pump. I have been test fitting the cylinders and had to order base shims to set the deck ht. Jake sent them and they arrived yesterday finally. I assemble the cylinders tomorrow and take more measurements and check everything again. I still have to set the ring gap, and install the pistons. Heads of course are sitting there all done waiting for installation.
Sunday July 2 I spent 8 hrs tearing apart the engine to stop the oil cooler leaks. Cleaned the tin, resealed everything I could, installed the oil pressure hose, oil temp taco plate, CHT sensor and the gauges laying in the glovebox waiting for the 3 holes gauge plate.
New points cap and a rev limiter rotor plus new plugs and the Westy runs sweet! Tuesday, I installed the 5/8ths front sway bar and the new Boge shocks. God Damn what a difference driving it around. Body sway is gone, bumps and pot holes don't shake the whole bus to death anymore!! Wow, I am impressed. pics to come Attached thumbnail(s)
I spent a few hours welding and rust repairing on the Westy. Painted the bumpers and have been troubleshooting the FI as it has a bad off idle "hole" when cold. I suspect the AAR valve is shot as it doesn't have any cold idle rpm increase.
FedEx dropped off the vented disc's and M front pads so I can start rebuilding the calipers and install the whole shebang if I find time. (Hah) I think I will just sneak away after work this week to start on it atleast.
I should finally get the gasket set I ordered from John. Ordered a set of 911 brake parts so I can install the 73 911 brake set up on the car when it arrives. I need to order a set of vented drilled disc's for that cool look. Maybe its time to order the rear vented drilled disc's too so I can use the rear caliper spacer kit I have. I guess painting the calipers red is in order so I can look really fast and "fat" with the drilled discs.
Engine is sitting on the workbench waiting for me to find some time to assemble it. just too busy!!! I guess I will have to get sick for a day next week so I can work on it.
Jacco is here and we tackled the goofy door and go it to work. Got the drivers door on too. Stripped the old doors down for parts and glass to stash. Seat parts came today along with the heads back from HAM. They look great and with the HD valve springs and all should add a few more revs.
Since Jacco came along for a ride at work, we stopped by to see John Jones. That worked out good cuz I ordered some M calipers and also 4 vented 911 discs to upgrade the brakes. | 0 user(s) viewing
