This weekend was a good one for the old flare switch. Got the repo flares cut and started the 2" widening process. The amount needed to widen is shown in the photo with tire on sticking out past the stock flare. Tire is a 265, on a 18X10 rim w/a 40MM offset setting on a 2" spacer. I've now got everything about 60%done on the rear. Hopefully I'll be completely done in about 2 weeks. Ron Entries on Monday 19th March 2007

Front flares are now completely fitted, and primed. I've rolled the fender lips, cause the front tires rubbed when turned. For anyone wondering,my front setup is 930 brakes,930 hubs,78 930 front wheel spacers, and the 18X8 front wheels. the front and rear flare ends need a serious amount of fab-work to get them to match the rockers and spoiler.I would suggest that anyone putting on flares have the spoiler and rockers in place to make everything line up before any paint is laid. I recently got a set of AA flares, and now is the time to remove & replaced the fiberglass flares that the previous owner installed. The car had some front accident damage sometime in it's past, and the front fenders were covered with a full-fendered flares. It took me a couple of hours to remove them so that they could be reused by someone. Once they were removed,I had a lot of empty space to fill with sheetmetal, but no problem. I have noted however, that with my 930 front brakes, and 18X8 wheels with the 1" spacers that were original to the 78-80 930's,that I will have to roll the fender lip cause they do now rub. A while back,I posteed pics of my towhooks, and a lot of people chided me about them being what I would describe as eye candy and not really functional. Well,I had the front end of my car in the air working on the fuel pump and decided to pop off a couple of pics of the mounting brackets. I've done lift tests on this car with these brackets, and I ain't skeered when it comes to using these hooks. Ron Attached thumbnail(s) Entries on Wednesday 28th June 2006
As I show in the previuos blog,I fab'd up my own set of bezels from the pics on AJ's site. These 3 pics show the blank, blank formed, and the additional mat'l that needs to be added to the tabs. Everything is pretty straight forward until the extra mat'l needs to be added. So far, there's no room to spot weld.I tried tig'n,metal is so thin it burns thru, lastly,I mig'd ea part in 2 or 3 spots to secure them. That is what I did on mine. Last shot shows the finised bezel with a heavy coat of semi-gloss black. It hides a lotta sins. Ron Attached thumbnail(s) |
