I've been wanting to have a set of Gt style door panels on my teener for some time now.I thought that doing them now would make things easier if I ever get around to putting a cage in the car. I basically just copied what I have from AJ Serrano's site,seeing as he has really detailed pics on everything. I collected the necessary parts.I got the door pulls from Fiatparts.com.The German leatherette material from Auto' Int'l. I had a local leather guy make the strap.Lastlt I copied the bezel for the strap hole in the door from AJ's site.I lasered it out,then made a forming die to shape it.. I tried to recover the boards myself,seeing as how Aaron made it look so easy. Yeah well,the tuck & roll at the top kicked my a@* so bad I just carried it to a local upholsterer to finish. This past weekend,I got some carbon fiber sheeting in the mail that I ordered to add to the teener's dash to try and spruce it up a little. I got the stuff from a place called Dragonplate,total cost was about $120.00. It is just a veneer,already has the adhesive on the back. Basically it was cut,fit and peel and stick.The stuff was thin enough to cut with a pair of scissors.For the area around the glove box,I used a heat gun to form it and stick it down.Not much to it. I have currently added some towhooks,front and rear to the car. I wanted a folding hook design.i seached the internet for some off the shelf pieces,and I did find some.Most were in the 150-200.00 range per piece.That works out to 6-800.00 for tow hooks,doing all 4 corners. So,since I work in a fab shop,I designed my own on cad and whipped up a set. All the support sub-structure is hidden. I did a lift test on all 4 corners with an engine hoist,and everthing lifted fine w/o any flex. Car still needs a matched set of rear rims,Koni shocks rebuilt,and the speedo sent off for a refurb.Don't want no blue lights in the mirror. On the road time may be postponed cause now I want a roll cage and better seats.Ah the project keeps changing.But at leaast it's moving forward. mods so far. I took a couple pics over the weekend,of the speedo attachment on my 915 trans.
my trans,is a Vellios converted 915box. As all know,it doesn't come with the machining done for the speedo. I did the machine work,to have a mechanical speedo.The trans has a 7.31 R&P, as it already had the speedo gear on the pinion shaft end. After all was done,I had to have an aprox.8" longer speedo cable,witch I got from N.Hollywood Speedo for about $45.00. They also sold me a new right angle drive,and I joined them back to back. Oil cooler info:
My car is running a 3.6l/915 trans combo so an oil cooler was a must. I got a Mazda unit off an early rx7,and modified it by removing the end-cap. I then designed and tig-welded on a set of flanges,so as to make the end tank removable for inspection and cleaning if necessary.The elbow fittings house -16 adaptors,and all oil lines used are -16 size. The o.c. is mounted in the chassis in such a way that it can be removed in about 10 mins.total. It is rubber mounted on a small crossmember underneath it.The crossmember was then shrouded with a pc of 18ga. steel that was welded in to form the lower portion of the exit ducting for the airflow. The front was cut for an opening,and I fab'd my own screen guard.Fiberglass bumper and spoiler were then cut and re-glassed so everything lined up ok. I used 3 100cfm fans for day it'll be needed for heavy traffic,they exhaust under the car,thru a louvered aluminum pan I designed.The oil cooler shroud had to be heavily cut,and sectioned to get it to fit right,but it looks,and works ok The system is pretty much leak free,and It now requires about 12 quarts of Mobil 1 to be full on the stick. Interior info.
Car has a standard black cloth w/houndstooth patern seats.JWest eng. shifter. Becker Gran Prix stereo Personal steering wheel,I found it in a junkyard on a '77 280z.It was free. Full hydraulic clutch,adapted from a 964 unit. Made the pedal board from my own design,incorporating the club silhouette,laser cut from 16GA. titanium. My oil lines enter the cabin near the left foot area,so I fab'd a little cover to hide them. Triple combo gauge. Red lever,is the rear brake proportioning valve. everything else is run of the mill. I've been listening to the rhetoric that has been going back and forth about social security for some time now,and I think it's time for my 2cw.
I'm 43,and have believed for over 10yrs.now that there is gonna come a time in my life that I'll get a letter in the mail that'll start."Dear Mr.Szymanski, we regret to inform you etc. etc."It'll end in saying that I'll have to find a way to handle my retirement needs on my own. Fortunately for me I began to heavily invest in several funds,over the last decade,anticipating just when that day will come.As I've invested,I've stood back and looked at what I think are some of the reasons SS is in the predicament it is in today,and also the current people who are using it. First off,the economic dynamics that created the system in the depression are no longer in play today in our 21st century economy.We are down to about 3 people working people supporting each person receiving a SS check.Imagine you,your,and one neighbor taking 100 percent of your 3 incomes,and use it all to support some guy living down your street.Does any one think that is a great deal? As there are gonna be less of us working,as time goes on,the ratio gets worse.Those lousy senators telling us that there isn't a problem will long be dead and buried when my letter arrives.Also,those guys receive the same monthly salary for the rest of their lifetimes,when the leave office.I don't see anyone of them offering me a retirement package like that.What goes around comes around,and when this balloon pops,we'll all be right back to receiving what we got before there ever was SS. NOTHING. Now look around at the people on the system now.I can stand on my front porch and count at least 3 houses in my neighborhood where some guy is claiming disability,and they draw a check(off of me no doubt)but can't go to work. These people can get up every morning,put on their britches & shoes,and head off to the local McDonalds,or Walmart to shop,but not to work.They aren't riding in any wheelchairs.Have ya ever noticed a news story on tv about a truelly handicapped person.A lot of those people actively go out and work cause it gives'em great value to their lives.They are the ones who truelly need some assistance,but work for independance.Ya wanna start trimming some waste from the system,start kicking off the roles the people who are scamming it claiming a bad back,or any other B.S.excuse. I'm sick of these dead beats living of us workers and getting a free ride.I never miss an opportunity locally to get in someone face and vent when I find out someone I know is riding in the wagon,while I'm told to pull it. I've also noticed the scams on tv about the electric Rascal carts.You know "call now and receive a free rascal."Ever notice in the commercials,that the people in them live in upscale homes and beautiful neighborhoods.Meeting each other in nice parks.If they can afford to live in a 200-300k house,let'm buy their own damned scooter.Stop fleecing the taxpayer for it. Besides,ever seen Ebay lately.Most of those people die out 6-12 months after they fleeced us for the thing anyway.Then the scooter ends up on Ebay. Same goes for Wolford Brimely.The commercial w/him sitting on the horse telling how you can get free med suppllies?I have no respect for the guy.Here he is,a millionaire forcing the taxpayer to shell out a couple hundred dollars a month for his supplies,cause he doesn't wanna pay for it himself.Wanna bet he doesn't mind paying more than that every month to feed that horse? I get into heated discussions with retirees at my church alot about meds.A retiree doesn't mind going out and buying that new car every few years and making a 3-400$per month payment,plusinsuranc,plus local taxes,but if the need a couple hundred dollars a month in medicine it's supposed to be free It's all a matter of priorities.People in the system begin to enjoy the free ride,then they want more of a free ride.Then more people wanna do the same. In ending,think about this.Today it's the social security boat that is sinking,in 5-10 years it's gonna be the same debate about Medicare.Nothing is free people.You can't keep using a service,and expect someone else to pay the bills,and then expect the service to go on forever.
